According to a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated May 13, 1996, clocks in Ukraine are set back one hour each fall on the last Sunday of October and forward one hour each spring on the last Sunday of March. Traditionally, the transition to winter time takes place at 4 a.m. and to summer time at 3 a.m.

Why Ukraine changed its clocks again, what is the time difference between Ukraine and other countries, and why this tradition is still preserved in the world - we will tell you further in the article.

What time is it in Ukraine now and what is the time difference with other countries?

The tradition of switching to winter and summer time is preserved not only in Ukraine, but also in European countries and some other countries around the world. That's why, after the next clock change, the time difference between Ukraine and Western countries has increased.

So, what is the time difference now?

– Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, Bulgaria, and Greece have the same time;

– France, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic have a time difference of 1 hour (in these countries, the time difference is one hour less than in Ukraine);

– Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Portugal - have a time difference of two hours (two hours less than in Ukraine);

– Georgia - there is a difference of 2 hours (in Georgia, there are two hours more than in Ukraine).

– The United States (Washington) and Canada (Ottawa) - have a time difference of 6 hours (6 hours less than in Ukraine);

– India - a difference of 4 hours (4 hours more than in Ukraine).

– China - a difference of 6 hours (6 hours more than in Ukraine);

– Japan - there is a 7-hour difference (Japan has 7 hours more time than Ukraine).

When will time change be canceled?

In general, daylight saving time is necessary for more rational use of electricity and longer working hours for employees. However, more than 130 countries have never changed time or completely abandoned this tradition, while only about 70 countries maintain daylight saving time.

There were many prerequisites for abolishing daylight saving time, but since Ukraine's independence, the Verkhovna Rada has never passed a resolution to that effect. In particular, the problem is that Ukraine has a fairly large area (more than 1,200 kilometers between the eastern and western regions), and therefore the government cannot decide which time should remain the main time (summer or winter).

In addition, the decision not to change the clocks now depends on the decision of the European Union, as it is best if the changes occur simultaneously in the EU and Ukraine. This will help avoid inconveniences in transport, including passenger and freight transportation. The EU countries are expected to reach a consensus on this issue by 2026.

Why hasn't the time change been canceled yet?

Heated discussions about the need to cancel daylight saving time have been going on for years. Doctors, somnologists, and biologists emphasize that constant time changes have a negative impact on people's health, while government officials and economists point out that the change allows countries and people to save money and resources.

It is not yet known when an agreement will be reached on this issue, but almost every country has plans to abandon this tradition, as it is considered outdated.

We remind you! The Ukrainian authorities emphasize that russia is preparing for new combined attacks on the energy sector and has already begun using new "lawnmower" drones for this purpose.
