When traveling within the country and abroad, you need to be vigilant and take care of your life and health. To mitigate the negative consequences for a person, insurance companies offer two (seemingly similar) types of insurance: accident insurance and travel insurance.

Let's take a look at when each of them can be useful and what insurance you should pay attention to when planning a trip.

The main differences between accident insurance and travel insurance

The specificity of accident insurance is that it is a voluntary type of personal insurance that provides financial protection to a person in the event of unforeseen situations related to his or her health. This type of insurance is available both in Ukraine and abroad.

Accident insurance is useful in the following cases:

- If you do not have sufficient financial preparation, which would be enough for 2-3 months in case of loss of regular income.

- If you have relatives or close friends who are financially dependent on you.

- If your professional activity is associated with increased risks.

- If you are an athlete and often get injured during training or competitions.

What are the benefits of accident insurance?

This type of insurance guarantees that you will receive compensation for treatment and rehabilitation in accordance with the terms of the contract if a health accident or death occurs (the compensation will be paid to the designated person).

The amount of coverage ranges from EUR 30,000 to EUR 50,000, depending on the insured event, and is based on a percentage of the sum insured. In case of death, full compensation is provided.

The policy is valid both in Ukraine and abroad.

Why is it useful to have accident insurance abroad in addition to travel insurance?

As for travel insurance, it is a prerequisite for traveling abroad, although it is often not checked at passport control.

The travel insurance contract covers risks related to the health of the tourist, but within the chosen travel period. You will be provided with the necessary assistance in another country and paid for treatment and medical support.

Travel insurance covers the organization of free medical care and standard treatment abroad in case of health problems.

The amount of coverage also ranges from a minimum sum insured of EUR 30,000 to a maximum of EUR 50,000. However, the coverage area is only abroad.

Usually, travel insurance has its limitations, such as not covering chronic diseases, allergies, sports injuries, burns, frostbite, insect bites and other similar situations. A travel policy provides for light first aid and does not include complex, long-term treatment and recovery that may be required after such situations.

Accident insurance with extended coverage covers a wide range of risks, so insurance payments can be provided in case of force majeure of any level of health complexity. In addition, compensation can be paid even in the event of death.

Some travel policies also include accident risks, so in the event of such events, the insured person can choose which of the contracts will be most beneficial for receiving payment - a travel policy or accident insurance, if both contracts are concluded.
