Ukraine has new rules for obtaining a driver's license, and now you don't have to attend a driving school to pass the theory test. Find out how to pass the test on your own and what you need to do
According to the new rules for obtaining a driver's license, it is no longer necessary to attend a driving school to pass the theory test. Previously, it took at least 2 months of full-time or distance learning at a driving school to learn the theory, but now novice drivers can study it on their own at a convenient pace.
We will tell you how to pass the theory exam on your own and what you need to do for this in the article below.

Is it possible to pass the driving test without a driving school?
Despite the fact that the theoretical exam has been simplified, you will still need to take a course at an accredited driving school to be admitted to the practical exam. The minimum number of hours of practical driving in a driving school is 30 hours (this number can be increased if necessary or desired by the student).
At the same time, a person has an unlimited number of attempts to pass the practical test. You can sign up for the practical test every 10 days.
Please note! The right to take the practical exam is valid for 1 year after passing the theoretical exam. If the student fails to complete the driving school and fails to pass the practical test within the specified period, he or she will have to take the training and pass the theory test again, as the result will be canceled.

How to pass the theory test without a driving school?
Once the theoretical knowledge base is mastered, a novice driver can sign up for the exam at a service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This can be done directly at the service center or through an electronic queue without leaving home. However, you can use the online appointment only four times a month.
In general, the theory exam lasts 20 minutes and consists of 20 questions. A novice driver has the right to make 2 mistakes, and if they make 3 mistakes, they will fail the exam and have to retake it. You can retake the theory exam an unlimited number of times. The cost of each attempt is UAH 13 + bank transfer fee.
Please note! Before visiting the service center to take the theoretical exam, you must obtain a medical certificate of form 083/о on medical examination by specialists.
Thus, on the chosen day and time, a novice driver must arrive at the service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to take the theoretical test and have the following documents with him
1. passport of a citizen of Ukraine;
2. identification code;
3. medical certificate of form 083/о;
4. an extract from the registration of the place of residence or an IDP certificate;
5. a check for payment of the administrative fee (the fee is paid directly at the MIS service center).
For their own safety, we recommend that novice drivers take out health insurance, which will guarantee safety and reimburse the costs of treatment or diagnostics in the event of an accident. You can take out a reliable insurance policy on the Visit Ukraine website by choosing the appropriate coverage package and number of days.
How can I prepare for the theory exam on my own?
In order to prepare for the theory exam as quickly and efficiently as possible and to master the entire theoretical knowledge base, the approach to learning should be comprehensive. Simply studying and memorizing rules and signs will not be enough, and therefore, to consolidate the results, it is recommended to prepare for the exam with the help of special applications with traffic tests. You can download them from the App Store or Google Play. In addition, novice drivers can practice passing the exam on the official website of the Traffic Rules Tests.
As a rule, such mobile applications contain not only questions that are as similar as possible to the official tests of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but also a theoretical framework with explanations, diagrams and video tutorials. However, in order to get full access to the training materials in the app, you will often need to purchase premium access, which can range from $3 to $25 per month.
At the same time, studying at a driving school will help you to undergo a more systematic and gradual training, which will guarantee a more accurate and correct mastery of the theoretical base. However, now every novice driver will be able to choose a more convenient learning option for themselves.
We remind you! The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to simplify the procedure for obtaining the status of a combatant. In particular, from now on, only one certificate is required to obtain the status. Read more about the changes in our previous article.
