The German government has extended temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine. Their residence permits will remain valid until March 4, 2025. This was reported by the German Ministry of the Interior.

Germany has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians: details

It should be noted that the Federal Council of Germany has already approved the relevant decision, as a result of which Ukrainian refugees will be able to extend their residence status automatically, without the need to submit additional documents or arrange meetings with immigration authorities.

This decision is based on the decision of the EU countries adopted at the end of September 2023. Now each EU country confirms the temporary status for Ukrainians separately, ensuring their safety and access to education and the labor market.

German Minister of the Interior Nancy Feser shared the importance of this step, noting that everyone who was forced to flee the war will remain protected and have the opportunity to access education and employment.

Measures to extend the status of refugees in Ukraine will be automatically valid until March 4, 2025, helping to maintain their safety and saving 10 million euros at the state level.

The Minister also emphasized that Germany will continue to support Ukraine and ensure the protection of its citizens.

As you know, there are currently more than 1.1 million Ukrainian citizens living in Germany who have applied for asylum since February 24, 2022. About 350 thousand of them are young people under the age of 18. About two-thirds of adult refugees from Ukraine are women.
