Currently, Ukrainian refugees in Germany receive payments on a par with German citizens, but an increase in financial assistance is expected in the near future. This is reported by bundesregierung.de.

It is noted that the relevant changes will come into force on January 1, 2024.

Germany changes the amount of payments to Ukrainians from 2024: what is known

The German government plans to significantly increase the standard amount of payments in 2024, and this decision has already received the support of the Federal Council and the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs.

As a result, all recipients of social assistance or Bürgergeld will receive more money from January 2024.

"Everyone who depends on social assistance or Bürgergeld will receive more money from January 2024. Single adults will receive 563 euros per month, which is 61 euros more than before," the statement said.

Thus, the standard amounts of social assistance and assistance to citizens will increase by 12%, and the new amounts will include:

• 563 euros for single persons (instead of 502 euros)

• 506 euros for partners in married couples (451 euros);

• 451 euros for adults in institutions (402 euros);

• 471 euros for adolescents aged 14-17 (420 euros);

• 390 euros for children aged 6-13 (348 euros);

• 357 euros for children under 5 years old (318 euros).

This will also lead to a significant increase in the amount allocated for personal school supplies, which will increase from 116 euros to 130 euros in the first half of the school year, and from 58 euros to 65 euros in the next half.

It is worth remembering that Bürgergeld, also known as civil assistance, is provided as a basic support for job seekers, and this applies to both German citizens and Ukrainians with temporary protection.
