Ukrainians as clients of Polish banks: statistics

After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and the large-scale arrival of refugees in Poland, local bankers began to analyze how Ukrainians would conduct banking operations in the new country. The first option was to use bank accounts only for everyday payments, and the second option was to take out loans. The second option would indicate an intention to settle in Poland and build a life there.

In the period from January to October 2023, Polish banks issued loans to Ukrainians worth PLN 2,621 billion. Over the same period in 2022, PLN 2,429 billion was accrued. The Credit Information Bureau notes that as of October, the balance of Ukrainians' debt on credit funds in Poland amounted to PLN 7,942 billion.

According to statistics, 75% of Ukrainians apply to Polish banks for mortgage loans for housing, 19% for cash loans, and only 2% for installment loans.

However, the debts of Ukrainians are not critical, as the total amount of debts is only 0.5 percent of the total loan portfolio of Polish banks.
