Lithuania will extend residence permits for Ukrainian citizens: details

According to Evelina Guzinskaitė, the head of the Lithuanian Migration Department, the opportunity to submit online applications and make an appointment to visit the Migration Service will be announced next week.

The Lithuanian official emphasized that as the current permits are nearing expiration, it is time to consider replacing them. The European Union has decided to extend temporary protection for another year, until March 2025. This means that all Ukrainians granted temporary protection will have the opportunity to extend their residence permits for another year.

How many Ukrainians are in Lithuania?

During the full-scale war, Lithuania issued 46 thousand electronic residence permits on the basis of temporary protection.

The number of new registrations is growing daily, ranging from 20 to 50 people per day.

According to the Migration Service, more than 85 thousand Ukrainians currently live in Lithuania, making up the largest foreign community in the country. However, many Ukrainian citizens have difficulties adapting to their new life in Lithuania, as they plan to link their future with Ukraine and do not feel the need to adapt to the Lithuanian environment.
