On December 9, train traffic between the Demiivska and Teremky stations of the blue line of the Kyiv metro was temporarily suspended due to repair work on the overrun tunnel. The decision to suspend the traffic was made on December 8 by the Standing Committee on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies of the Kyiv City State Administration.

We will tell you how long the inconvenience will last and whether the possibility of using alternative routes for residents and guests of the capital is being considered.

Traffic on the blue line will be partially closed in the Kyiv metro: details

It is noted that the recovery process will last about six months. During this period, only the trains of the Heroiv Dnipra and Lybidska stations of the blue line will operate.

In particular, Demiivska, Holosiivska, Vasylkivska, Vystavkovyi Tsentr, Hippodrome, and Teremky stations will remain open, but will be used as shelters.

To ensure the transportation of passengers, the possibility of using other routes on the surface from Teremky station to Lybidska station is being considered. However, specific details of this measure have not yet been determined.

The tunnel between Demiivska and Lybidska metro stations is in disrepair

According to Kyiv Passengers, citing its own sources, the tunnel between Demiivska and Lybidska stations is in an emergency condition due to problems with sealing. This caused significant flooding on the rail grid with sand.

The sand, which is an abrasive material, can exacerbate the situation by damaging the weak points of the tunnel's lining. The water level has now reached the soles of the rails and higher, which has caused a restriction of train speeds to 15 km/h. The causes of the problem remain unknown.

It is planned that after the closure of the stations, specialists will conduct the necessary inspections, studies and engineering tests to determine the causes of the accident and take urgent measures to stabilize the structures and restore the tunnel.
