Assistance to Ukrainian refugees in Europe remains at a high level. According to 2023 data, 79% of EU citizens express support for accepting those seeking refuge from war. This is reported by schengenvisainfo.com.

We will tell you where in Europe Ukrainians are most supported and willing to accept refugees.

Where is the most supportive of Ukrainians?

Although the level of support for Ukrainian refugees in the EU has slightly decreased compared to the previous year, it remains high.

According to the Migration Atlas study presented by the European Commission's Joint Research Center (JRC), 79% of EU citizens support the reception of refugees fleeing war (last year the figure was 88%).

These results emphasize the tendencies of EU solidarity towards migrants from Ukraine. The largest decrease in the level of approval of accepting Ukrainians was recorded in the Czech Republic (from 77% to 58%), Slovenia (from 89% to 66%) and Slovakia (from 76% to 58%).

The only positive exception is Denmark, where support for Ukrainian refugees increased from 89% to 90.8%.

Portugal was the country with the highest level of support (93.7%, compared to 96.2% in 2022).

In 2023, the share of respondents in EU countries who expressed support for granting asylum to Ukrainians was as follows:

• Finland - 92%;

• Sweden - 89.3%;

• Spain - 87.9%;

• Italy - 85.5%;

• Poland - 84.7%;

• Romania - 83.1%;

• Ireland - 79.2%;

• Netherlands - 78.4%;

• Hungary - 77.5%;

• France - 76.4%;

• Germany - 73.6%.

Among the EU countries, Germany received the largest number of Ukrainian refugees (1,215,365), followed by Poland (960,620) and the Czech Republic (364,450).
