On September 1, 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine finally switched to the modern New Julian calendar. And starting in 2024, almost all Ukrainian church holidays will be celebrated 13 days earlier, according to the Gregorian calendar. However, not all holidays have been shifted, and Ukrainians will continue to celebrate some holidays on their usual dates.

Read more about the changes in the church calendar for 2024 in the article below.

When will Easter, Trinity, and other twelve feasts be celebrated in 2024?

Easter is the main Orthodox holiday in Ukraine, but the date of its celebration does not depend on the New Julian calendar, as it is transitional and calculated according to the lunar calendar. Thus, in 2024, Easter will be celebrated in Ukraine on May 5.

It is important to note that three of the twelve twelve holidays also have a transitional date that depends on the date of Easter:

– Palm Sunday, or the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, will be celebrated in 2024 on April 28;

– Ascension of the Lord — on June 13;

– The Holy Trinity — on June 23.

The other nine twelve feasts have a non-transitional date, and the date of their celebration is shifted by 13 days.

How to celebrate holidays in times of war?

For the second year in a row, Ukrainians have been forced to celebrate holidays and important dates in the midst of a full-scale war. And sometimes, even planning an ordinary family dinner in Ukraine is not an easy task. Sometimes it is impossible to do so because loved ones are in different parts of the country and the world, and sometimes it is simply dangerous given the situation in Ukraine itself.

At the same time, it would be a mistake not to say that morale and mood also play a huge role here, because, unfortunately, the war plays a significant role in our mental health.

However, we know what can be a good cure for fatigue and a feeling of powerlessness, and can give a breath of fresh air and strength even in such an unstable time. And this is traveling. After all, even short trips are an effective tool for rebooting and giving your nervous system a break. For example, a two-day vacation to a picturesque place, and there are many of them in Ukraine, can help you regain your strength for several weeks to come.
