Sri Lanka is simplifying the procedure for obtaining a driver's license for foreigners. This was reported by economynext.
Under the new rules, starting in April, foreigners will be able to obtain temporary driving licenses right at the airport. This innovation will be an important step in facilitating the process of obtaining driving licenses for foreigners.
The details of the issuance of licenses are described in the article below.
Sri Lanka changes requirements for obtaining a driver's license
Previously, foreigners seeking to rent a car or scooter in Sri Lanka had to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMT) near Colombo and follow a complex set of bureaucratic procedures. However, with the introduction of new measures to issue temporary driving licenses at the airport, foreign tourists are expected to find it much easier.
The process of obtaining a driver's license on the island was quite complicated, and only about 3,500 people a year were able to obtain driving licenses. However, with the introduction of the new measures, the authorities expect to increase the number of foreigners using this service.
As for the specific requirements for obtaining a Lankan driver's license, they remain unclear. However, it is likely that it will be enough to present your driver's license and pay the appropriate fee.
The new service will be paid for, but prices have not yet been determined.
