On 25 March, the russian army launched a missile attack on Kyiv with ballistic missiles that targeted buildings housing high-ranking Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) officials.

Missile attack on Kyiv

After 10 a.m., residents of the city heard alarms, and within seconds, loud explosions were heard in the capital.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, air defence units managed to intercept two ballistic missiles that russia launched at the Ukrainian capital from the occupied Crimea. Both missiles were aimed at the city centre.

As the Kyiv Post found out, the missiles were trying to hit the offices of the Security Service of Ukraine on the day of its professional holiday, which is celebrated annually on 25 March.

However, on Monday morning, when civilians go to work and children are in school, the air targets hit civilian targets, one of which was the Boychuk Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design in the Pechersk district of the capital.

At least 7 people were injured in the attack. Currently, rescuers continue to clear the rubble.

It is worth noting that the wreckage of the downed missiles was found in the Pechersk, Solomianskyi and Dniprovskyi districts of the capital.

The Ukrainian military suggests that russia attempted to attack Kyiv with the latest Zircon anti-ship missiles today.

Zircon missile: what is known about it

In general, the 3M22 Zircon missile is one of the least studied russian missiles, as it is a new project of the russian army. It is known that the Zircon, declared as a hypersonic missile, was adopted in January 2023.

Such hypersonic missiles are quite specific, as they have extremely high speeds and are difficult to detect by radars and air defence systems.

Here is a brief description of the Zircon missile:

▪️ warhead 300-400 kg;

▪️ based on ships or submarines;

▪️ range up to 1000 km;

▪️ speed of 10.7 thousand km/h.

It is assumed that the Zircon is a two-stage missile, with the first stage equipped with a solid rocket engine and the second stage with a straight-through air-jet engine.

Did the occupiers want to take revenge on the SSU?

As you know, putin's regime often launches attacks on Ukraine on significant dates. As the Security Service of Ukraine celebrates its professional holiday today, it is quite possible that the russian army wanted to strike at the buildings of the special service.

The russian regime's anger at the Security Service of Ukraine is obvious, as they are behind the successful attacks on russian ships, the Crimean bridge, and the russians' Achilles' heel, oil refineries, which have recently become the main targets of kamikaze drones in russia.

Despite the sanctions, the russian economy has so far managed to stay afloat only through oil and gas production, so Ukraine is now trying to weaken the russians by striking oil refineries.

Just today, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Vasyl Malyuk, said that the SSU was behind the attacks on russian refineries.

By the way, since the beginning of the year alone, kamikaze drones have successfully hit at least 13 such plants in russia, and experts say the attacks have deprived putin's regime of 10-15% of its oil refining output.

We remind you! On 22 March, the russian occupation army launched a new large-scale missile attack on Ukrainian cities. As a result of the destruction of energy facilities, there were power outages in the country. Read here to find out how massive the shelling was and what its consequences were.
