The Office of the International Register of Damages Caused by russian aggression was opened in Kyiv. This was reported by Suspilne, according to Rubrika.

The article below explains who can apply for compensation and how the initiative will work.

Register of damages caused by russian aggression: what is known

As you know, the Register of Damages of Ukraine was created in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution on "Promoting Redress and Reparation for Aggression against Ukraine". This initiative was introduced in order to demand that russia be held accountable for its violations of international law on the territory of Ukraine, in particular through the payment of reparations.

The launch of the Register of Damages is the first step in the formation of an international compensation mechanism. This body will accept applications for compensation and evaluate the evidence related to each case.

In the future, a Compensation Board will be established to review applications, as well as a Compensation Fund from which compensation will be paid.

When will it be possible to apply for compensation?

In early April, the International Register of Damages for Ukraine will start accepting direct applications from victims of the armed aggression of the russian federation.

The opening of the Office in Kyiv is one of the stages of preparing the register. The Council has already been established for this purpose, and there are specialists and headquarters in The Hague.

The International Register of Losses will cooperate with national registers, and information about applicants from Ukraine will be transferred to it automatically. However, it will be possible to receive compensation only once - either from Ukraine or from the international compensation mechanism.
