Next Sunday, 31 March, Christians of the Western rite will celebrate Easter. On the eve of the holiday, passenger traffic on the Ukrainian border has increased significantly, both in one direction and the other. Here's what the situation is now and what border guards are saying.

Situation at the border

"Due to the approach of Easter holidays in the EU countries, border guards are recording an increase in the flow of people and vehicles at checkpoints on the border with Poland," the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine says.

The latest data on border crossing operations show a gradual daily increase in the number of people crossing the border. In particular, passenger traffic in both directions has increased by 8,000 in recent days.

For example, on 27 March, 70,000 people and 18,000 vehicles crossed Ukraine's western borders with the EU and Moldova (in Chernivtsi region).

At the same time, 34,000 people left Ukraine, 20,000 of whom crossed the border into Poland. And 36,000 people entered Ukraine, 32,000 of whom were Ukrainian citizens.

To cross the border, drivers of cars and buses most often choose the following checkpoints:

- "Krakovets;

- "Shehyni.

These are the places with the largest concentrations of traffic. In addition, border guards record queues to enter Ukraine.

The lowest dynamics was noted at the following checkpoints:

- "Smilnytsia;

- "Hrushei";

- "Rava-Ruska;

- "Uhryniv.

In order to reduce waiting time in queues, border guards recommend that citizens choose the least busy areas to cross the border.

Holidays in Europe

As you know, on 31 March, Christians of the Western rite will celebrate Easter. In this regard, most EU countries will have a public holiday from 31 March to 1 April, which will allow Ukrainians to return home and spend this time with their families.

We remind you! Access to international airports via neighbouring countries remains a viable option for Ukrainians seeking to travel or fly abroad in the current situation. Find out which airports are convenient for Ukrainians to transit and how to get there here.
