Zaluzhnyi becomes ambassador and new generals reshuffle in the Ukrainian army: details
Personnel reshuffles continue in the Ukrainian army. The former head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has been dismissed from military service and will become an ambassador. However, other generals have also been given new positions. Find out who President Zelenskyy has appointed and to what position
Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valeriy Zaluzhnyi has officially become Ukraine's new ambassador to the UK. The decree has already been signed by President Vladimir Zelensky. However, this is not the only reshuffle in the Ukrainian army. We will tell you about them below.
On Thursday, 9 May, the Ukrainian president's website published a decree dismissing Zaluzhnyi from military service for health reasons, but with the right to wear the uniform.
It is already known that Zaluzhnyi has been trained for diplomatic work and is already forming a new team to work at the embassy.
It is worth noting that Valeriy Zaluzhnyi has no diplomatic experience. He has dedicated his life to his military career. At the same time, in 2020, the general completed a master's degree in international relations at the Ostroh Academy.
Personnel changes in the Ukrainian army continue
The Special Forces have a new head
In addition to the appointment of Zaluzhnyi as ambassador, today it became known that a new head of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been appointed. It is General Oleksandr Trepak.
Trepak began his military career in 1993, when he was able to hold a number of positions in intelligence units. He served in several types of intelligence: military, radio intelligence and information. There he received the call sign "Redoubt".
From the beginning of 2014, Trepak took part in the anti-terrorist operation. In June of that year, a special forces group led by Trepak conducted an operation to search for and evacuate the seriously wounded commander of the Armour Supply Centre, Colonel Volodymyr Chobitko, near Bakhmut.
As early as October 2014, Trepak held the position of senior military commander for the defence of the Donetsk airport.
He directly led the repulsion of all attempts to storm and seize Donetsk airport. He organised counter-sabotage and counter-ambush activities near the airport. This is what prevented the Russians from blocking the supply of food and ammunition to the defenders of the airport.
In 2015, Trepak was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and the Order of the Golden Star.

New commander of the Support Forces
Also on 9 May, the President appointed the commander of the Support Forces. It was again General Dmytro Gerega, who was dismissed from this position three months ago by Zelenskyy.
In 2007-2008, he served as the commander of the 12th Engineer Regiment of the North Operational Command, then was the head of the operational support department of the 8th Army Corps of the Army and headed the Support Forces Department of the North Command.
In 2014, he took part in the ATO and was involved in the construction of fortifications.
This branch of the Armed Forces was created in Ukraine only in early 2020 and is responsible for engineering troops, electronic warfare (EW), radiation, chemical and biological defence (RCD) troops and military topographic service.
