New pedestrian bridge and recreational area in Kyiv: what does it look like?

Construction of this bridge began in 2021, but work was suspended at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. They were resumed only in the spring of 2023 thanks to the funds of patrons. In January last year, the mayor of the capital said that the Metropolis of Greater Paris had sponsored the completion of a pedestrian bridge from Obolonska embankment to Obolon Island, as well as the arrangement of a recreational area. The French allocated UAH 19.5 million for the construction work.

According to Klitschko, "the structures for the bridge were manufactured at Azovstal. They were brought to Kyiv just a few weeks before the start of the full-scale war."

For the time being, the main structure will not be illuminated, only the economical LED lighting near the bridge will work. The new bridge is 3.5 meters wide and 176 meters long. It is comfortable for people with limited mobility and does not interfere with the passage of small vessels to Obolon Bay.

The recreational area on Obolonsky Island is designed to preserve flora and fauna. Currently, benches, playgrounds and toilets have been installed, and new trees and bushes have been planted. In addition, hiking and cycling routes have been created for vacationers.
