For the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Equality March took place in Kyiv. Find out how the event took place, what restrictions were imposed, and who joined the event
On June 16, Kyiv hosted the Equality March, which was the first since russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. The event lasted about 30 minutes and was attended by about 500 people. Activists of the LGBT community, the military, MPs and ambassadors of partner countries, including the UK, France and Sweden, joined the march.

How did the Equality March go in Kyiv?
This year, due to security concerns, the number of participants was limited, and the time and location of the event were not disclosed in advance. The organizers note that this is the first time since 2015 that they have had to impose such restrictions.
"There will be no music or singing today, because we remember the conditions in which we are doing this," Anna Sharygina, co-founder of the KyivPride NGO and one of the march organizers, said into the microphone before the march began.
The marchers were allowed to walk no more than 100 meters, but the organizers believe that the police overestimated the risks and effectively isolated the action.
"Human rights are about equal people having equal opportunities," they emphasized. "Instead, our march was surrounded by cordons of police and buses and allowed to pass only 100 meters."
The participants carried placards with slogans: "There is no peace without justice in Ukraine," "We march for those who cannot," "For the freedom of all Ukrainians," and others.
In addition to activists and concerned Ukrainians, the march was attended by LGBT military personnel, foreign politicians, representatives of international organizations and observers.
It is worth noting that simultaneously with the Equality March, an action "for traditional values" was held on Khreshchatyk.
