Mobilisation is ongoing in Ukraine due to the ongoing war. As you know, students are entitled to a deferment of military service, but under the new law on mobilisation, some people may be called up to the Armed Forces. We will tell you in which cases education is not a reason for a postponement of mobilisation.

Which students are not subject to mobilisation?

According to the Law of Ukraine "On Mobilisation Preparation and Mobilisation", students are not subject to military service:

Students of vocational (vocational-technical), professional higher and higher education who are studying full-time or dual form of education and obtaining a level of education higher than the previously obtained level of education. In addition, doctoral students and persons enrolled in internships are still eligible for deferment.

Who can be mobilised?

On 1 July, a provision of the law defining the categories of students who can be drafted into the army comes into force. There are three such categories:

- students studying part-time;

- students receiving their second and third higher education;

- students receiving any education at a level lower than the one they already have.

Other cases of mobilisation of young people

As we have written, cases of young men under 25 being sent to a military medical commission and then to training and the front line have become more frequent in Ukraine. This began to happen after the law on mobilisation came into force.

The fact is that people who somehow received a "white ticket" in peacetime automatically fall into the category of "reservists", as their status for wartime was originally defined as "limitedly fit". However, since May, there is no such concept in Ukraine, and only "fit" or "unfit" remains.

Currently, there is no procedure for transferring men under the age of 25 who were previously declared partially fit and will be declared fit after undergoing a second medical examination.

We remind you! Due to the mobilisation and departure of citizens abroad, Ukraine has faced an acute shortage of personnel, especially in professions that were popular among men. In order to somehow reduce the shortage of employees, companies began to engage women in such employment. To find out which "male" professions are gradually being taken over by women and where the shortage is greatest, please follow the link.
