Rustem Umerov called on Ukrainians in Europe to join the Ukrainian Legion, which will train in Poland. Find out about the benefits of joining and the importance of this initiative for Ukraine's defense capability
Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has called on all Ukrainians currently living in Europe to join the Ukrainian Legion. Find out what benefits and opportunities this initiative opens up for Ukrainians abroad.
Security Cooperation Agreement and the Ukrainian Legion
On July 8, 2024, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Tusk signed an agreement on security cooperation between Ukraine and Poland. As Umerov noted, "this is a new important step in strengthening the defense capabilities of both neighboring states."
One of the key provisions of the agreement is the creation of the Ukrainian Legion, a special volunteer unit that will train in Poland to defend Ukraine. The Legion will be equipped with the most modern equipment from international partners, which will increase its effectiveness on the battlefield.

The Ministry of Defense explained why this is important
1. Increasing combat readiness. Volunteers will receive state-of-the-art training from allies from Poland, Lithuania and other EU countries. This will ensure a high level of readiness and the ability to act effectively in war.
2. International support and equipment. The Ukrainian Legion will be equipped with the best equipment from international partners, which will significantly increase its combat capability and effectiveness.
3. Opportunities for Ukrainian citizens in Europe. Ukrainians living in Poland and other EU countries will be able to voluntarily join the defense of Ukraine by signing a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This opens up the possibility of directly joining the fight for the independence and territorial integrity of their homeland.
Rustem Umerov emphasized the importance of this initiative and called on all Ukrainians living in Europe to join the Ukrainian Legion. "Your contribution is invaluable in our struggle for freedom and independence. Each step you take brings us closer to victory," the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine emphasized.
We remind you! In recent months, the number of applicants to join the International Legion of Ukraine has increased several times. Read about the current requirements for candidates and how to apply for membership under a simplified procedure in our previous article.
