Ukraine is actively working to expand transportation links with European countries. Thus, the Cabinet of Ministers made a decision to establish a joint Ukrainian-Moldovan commission to build a bridge across the Dniester. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting.

Bridge across the Dniester between Ukraine and Moldova: details

Ukraine and Moldova are working together to create a new transportation corridor between Kyiv and Chisinau. According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, the bridge will be built across the Dniester near the towns of Yampil and Cosăuc. This will be a key link that will significantly improve transportation between the two capitals.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal also emphasized that the systematic upgrade of checkpoints on the border with Moldova is being carried out with the support of USAID and the European Union. This will increase the efficiency and speed of border crossing, contributing to the development of logistics in the western direction.

The agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Moldova on the construction of a road border bridge crossing over the Dniester River was ratified in 2023. It is planned to allocate UAH 5.044 billion from a special fund of the state budget for the construction of the bridge.

Expansion of communication with Poland: Nyzhankovychi - Malkhovychi checkpoint

As Shmyhal reminded, Ukraine is also expanding its transport ties with Poland. According to the signed security agreement, a new railway crossing point Nyzhankovychi - Malkhovychi is planned to be opened, which will improve logistics and increase the convenience of crossing the border.

According to recent reports, the launch of this checkpoint is already at the final stage and the checkpoint is about to start operating. As noted by the Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration (RSA) Maksym Kozytskyi in February 2024, the construction has already been completed and the commissioning was to take place within 6 months.

All of these measures are aimed at improving Ukraine's transport infrastructure, which will contribute to more efficient logistics and the development of economic ties with the EU.

Remember! For Ukrainian citizens who plan to cross the border by their own car with Ukrainian registration, it is mandatory to obtain a Green Card.

The Green Card is a mandatory international motor third-party liability insurance policy that covers the costs of compensation for damage to life, health and property of third parties caused by an accident in the territory of the member states of the international Green Card agreement (which is almost 50 countries).

Without a Green Card, entry into the EU countries by a car with Ukrainian registration is prohibited and subject to a fine. It should be borne in mind that the insurance starts the day after the registration, so we advise you to read the terms and conditions in advance and purchase a Green Card.

It is better to buy insurance online because it is quick and easy. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can take out a Green Card policy from a licensed insurer. Packages are available for different periods from 15 days to 1 year for cars and trucks, trailers and semi-trailers for trucks, as well as motorcycles and scooters.

We remind you! Currently, Ukraine can only be reached by land, as there are no air connections to the country. Read more about which border crossing points you can enter and where the longest queues are usually recorded in our previous article.
