AFU offensive in Kursk region: what has changed over the three days of the operation and whether there is any advancement
A new front has formed on the Ukrainian-russian border. The main fighting has intensified in the Kursk region of russia. Find out what's happening in the border area and why the new attack on russia looks like a major operation by Ukraine
Ukraine's operation in the Kursk region of the russian federation is continuing for the third day. It seems that the Ukrainian armed forces are not going to stop, but the russians have also started to transfer reserves from the front. What is known about the situation in the Kursk direction, what advancement the Ukrainian army has and what changes have occurred over these days, we tell you further.
The AFU has thrown serious forces to the Kursk direction
Already today it became clear that the regular army of Ukraine is really present on the territory of the Kursk region. The operation of the Ukrainians, as some analysts report, is taking place in a similar manner to the Kharkiv offensive in 2022.
At least three brigades (probably more), including one of the best Ukrainian military units, the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade, have been moved into russian territory, according to Forbes.
According to the data that has been gathered from online videos, the Kursk operation from the Ukrainian side involves heavy equipment of various kinds: tanks, demining vehicles, communications vehicles, APCs and American Stryker wheeled armoured personnel carriers.
In general, the mass media believe that up to 10,000 AFU troops may be in the Ukrainian operation zone at the moment. However, as members of the russian army complain online, the Ukrainian army is constantly replenishing its grouping in the Kursk region with new formations.
The situation on the map
Given that the Ukrainian side does not officially announce the results of the operation on the territory of russia, it is quite difficult to obtain accurate information about the settlements occupied by the AFU. However, several photos with Ukrainian military in villages and towns of Kursk region have already been published in the network.
It is known that the Ukrainian side fully controls the border line from Lyubimovka to Guevo. The depth of advancement so far remains within the limits of Malaya Loknya. There is also information that the AFU is near the town of Korenevo and, according to russian military correspondents, the Ukrainians will intensify the assault on this settlement to open the road to Rylsk.
Russia is losing equipment and its military
In the first days of the operation, Ukraine claimed that the Ukrainian army had destroyed a russian helicopter near Sumy region, which borders the russian territory where the situation is developing. Preliminarily, we are talking about the shooting down of a Ka-52. This information is not denied and war correspondents from russia.
In addition, in the network, the Ukrainian military reports that in the Kursk region managed to take more than three dozen russian fighters into captivity.
In the following days, there was also information about the defeat of several Russian helicopters, but there was no visual evidence of this.
What is known for sure is that at night in the Rylsk district, Ukrainian troops destroyed a column of russian units that were travelling towards the zone of active fighting with HIMARS strikes. In the morning, the russians themselves confirmed online that they had lost almost an entire battalion of military personnel because of the strike.

Suja - the main direction of attack?
The town of Suja, which is located near the Ukrainian-russian border, seems to have become one of the main areas of attack for Ukrainian troops.
However, according to some reports, the Ukrainian army controls only a part of the town of Suja and has no plans to take full control of it yet. russian military bloggers believe that the AFU will definitely move towards Rylsk.
It is also important to note that the Ukrainians are advancing in the northern south-eastern directions of the Kursk region.
At the same time, russians complain that the Ukrainian army may start a border breakthrough in the Bryansk region, where a large number of AFU troops are also allegedly concentrated. By the way, the russian authorities have already introduced a counter-terrorist threat regime in this region.
Allies are not against Ukraine's operation
Politico writes that Kiev's offensive is getting the green light from its allies, particularly Germany, which believes that Ukraine has the right to self-defence that is not limited to its territory.
Germany and other countries that support Ukraine have previously been cautious about providing Kiev with weapons that could be used to strike russian territory. However, recent events involving intensified Ukrainian attacks inside russia suggest a change in that policy.
"Ukraine has the right to self-defence enshrined in international law. This is not limited to its own territory," the German Foreign Ministry said in comments to Politico.
We remind you! The US Congress presented a detailed report on potential threats to their country. It indicates that the country faces the greatest challenges since the end of World War II. Also officials talk about the risk of the Third world war, the beginning of which will depend on the outcome of the war in Ukraine. What exactly the US report says, read here.
