Slovakia has changed the rules for registration of temporary protection for Ukrainians: new conditions
New rules for registering temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees have come into effect in Slovakia. Find out how the changes took place and what is now mandatory for obtaining the appropriate status
On August 6, 2024, new rules for registration for temporary protection came into effect in Slovakia. Ukrainian refugees can now apply to any police department for foreigners, but must first register online. According to the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, the Assistance Center in Bratislava at 7 Bottova Street will no longer provide these services.
New procedure for applying for temporary protection in Slovakia
Now, in order to apply for temporary protection, you must first fill out an application for Dočasné útočisko online. Without this, it will be impossible to submit documents to the foreign police department. All Ukrainian refugees must make an appointment at the selected police station through the booking system. You can reserve an appointment on the Ministry's website in the booking system section. Only one person can be booked for one date.
Schedule for submitting documents
You can now apply for temporary protection only on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 07:30 to 13:30. This means that it will be impossible to make a visit without an appointment. This restriction will help to organize an efficient reception of applications and reduce the workload of police stations.

Which police stations can I apply to?
Ukrainian refugees can apply to any of the 13 police stations for foreigners, regardless of their place of planned residence in Slovakia.
These offices are located in the cities of: Michalovce, Košice, Presov, Romavská Sobota, Ruzomberok, Banská Bystrica, Žilina, Trencin, Nitra, Dunajska Streda, Nove Zamky, Trnava, Bratislava.
Required documents and application processing time
If a refugee has a passport or other identity document, temporary protection status will be granted immediately. If there is no document, the decision on the application will be made within at least 30 days. Confirmation of the granting of temporary protection will be a residence permit document marked "DOČASNÉ ÚTOČISKO".
The new rules for obtaining temporary protection in Slovakia are aimed at simplifying and optimizing the registration process for Ukrainian refugees. It is important to comply with all requirements and pre-register online to avoid delays and misunderstandings.
