Main provisions of the draft law
The draft law defines the cases in which multiple citizenship is allowed and the peculiarities of acquiring and renewing Ukrainian citizenship for certain categories of foreigners under a simplified procedure. An important aspect is the clarification of the conditions for acquiring citizenship by birth, territorial origin, and the conditions for admission to citizenship.
Permissible cases of multiple citizenship: who is eligible?
Multiple citizenship (nationality) is allowed in the following cases:
1. Acquisition by a child of citizenship of Ukraine and another state by birth.
2. Acquisition of citizenship by a child of foreign adoptive parents.
3. Acquisition of another citizenship by a citizen of Ukraine through marriage with a foreigner.
4. Automatic acquisition of another citizenship by a citizen of Ukraine through the legislation of another state without obtaining a supporting document.
5. Simplified acquisition of Ukrainian citizenship by foreigners from the states included in the relevant list.
6. Acquisition by a citizen of Ukraine of the citizenship of states whose citizens obtain Ukrainian citizenship under a simplified procedure.

Restrictions on multiple citizenship will also be introduced
The draft law provides for restrictions on multiple citizenship for persons holding the citizenship of a state recognized by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as an aggressor or occupier, or a state that does not recognize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, in particular, voted against the UN General Assembly Resolution "On the Territorial Integrity of Ukraine" of March 27, 2014 No. 68/262.
The new draft law is aimed at adapting the legislation to modern realities and ensuring the rights of Ukrainians to multiple citizenship, while protecting the national interests of Ukraine.
