For Ukrainian travellers planning to visit Indonesia in 2024, it is important to be aware of the current entry rules. Over the past year, there have been some changes in visa policy and requirements for travellers, so let's take a closer look at what you need to know before travelling to Indonesia.

Visa to Indonesia

To travel to Indonesia, you need to take care of a visa in advance, which is mandatory to visit the country. Citizens of Ukraine can apply for a visa upon arrival at the airport.

Such a visa allows you to enter the country for 30 days, with the possibility of extending it for another 30 days, after which you must leave Indonesia.

To extend the visa, travellers must visit an Indonesian migration office (Kantor Imigrasi).

Requirements for visa extension upon arrival:

- 2 completed extension forms (Formulir untuk perpanjangan pertama visa kunjungan and Formulir perubahan data orang asing form);

- a passport valid for at least 6 months;

- a copy of the sponsor's ID (agencies can act as a sponsor for a fee);

- payment of the extension fee.

Important! It is recommended to submit documents at least 10 days before the visa expiration date. Exceeding the period of stay at the Indonesian VOA will result in a fee (IDR 300,000 per day) and may affect future visa applications.

You can also apply for a visa online, as an electronic visa to Indonesia is available to Ukrainians.

Electronic visa to Indonesia for Ukrainians

The electronic visa application system for Indonesia offers Ukrainians two main options. The first one is a single-entry eVisa, which gives the right to stay in the country for 30 days. It is important to note that it is valid for three months (90 days) from the date of issue. This type of visa is ideal for tourist trips or short-term visits.

For those planning a longer or more regular visit to Indonesia, the best choice would be a multiple entry electronic visa, also known as a multivisa. This document allows you to stay in the country for up to 60 days during each visit for a full year from the date of issue. The uniqueness of a multiple-entry visa is that it allows you to visit Indonesia an unlimited number of times within the period of its validity, ensuring maximum freedom of movement.

Both types of e-visas can be applied for through the official portal of the Indonesian Immigration Service. The application process is fully digitalised, which saves time and avoids unnecessary bureaucracy. After the application is approved, the visa is sent to the applicant's email.

It is also worth noting that an e-visa significantly speeds up the passport control procedure upon arrival in Indonesia. This is especially important for those who value their time and comfort when travelling.

The Indonesian government sets certain requirements for all foreigners who want to obtain an e-Visa. Keep in mind that these requirements must be met before filling out the online eVisa application:

- a valid passport;

- several blank pages (preferably two) for entry/exit stamps;

- a valid email address;

- a valid credit or debit card;

- an application form with all the data;

- 1 colour photo (4*6 cm) against a light background (taken no later than 3 months before submission).

How to apply for an e-Visa to Indonesia?

Here are the step-by-step instructions for filling out the eVisa application:

1. Go to the website. Click on the login menu and on the Register button to create an account. If you already have an account, enter your username and password, and then click Submit.
2. Fill in your personal and passport information and click Submit.
3. Check your email, click the Activate button to activate your account, and then log in with your username and password.
4. Go to the main menu, then click on the Apply button (or go to the Applications menu) to apply for an e-Visa/.
5. Fill in the visa application form, click Submit to continue and then make the payment.
6. Click the Make Payment button to process, enter your credit card details, and then click the Pay Now button. Online payments with Visa, Mastercard and JCB logos are accepted.

7. Complete and verify the payment. If the payment is successful, the e-visa will be processed. You will receive an email notification when your e-visa is ready.
8. Click Download to receive your visa.
9. Show your electronic or printed copy of the approved eCertificate to the officers at immigration control.

Keep in mind. Indonesian visa holders must provide a copy of their visa, as well as the same passport they used when applying. It is important that the information in the visa matches the information in the passport.

Multiple entry visa for Indonesia

For regular trips to Indonesia, you can also apply for a 5-year multivisa: D1 visa for tourism and D2 visa for business. This visa allows you to stay in Indonesia for up to 60 days. You can apply on the website.

Documents for applying for a multivisa:

- a passport valid for at least 6 months;
- proof of financial resources for staying in Indonesia (at least USD 2,000 or equivalent);
- colour photograph;
- one of the following documents: an invitation letter or a letter from a government agency explaining the relationship with the applicant or a letter of application from a spouse or parent explaining the family relationship with the applicant.

The visa fee is about $970.

Documents for entering Indonesia

To travel to Indonesia, you need to prepare the following documents in advance:

- passport;

- printed electronic visa (if necessary);

- insurance policy;

- flight itinerary;

- hotel booking confirmation;

- proof of sufficient funds for the trip;

- $35 in cash if you choose a visa upon arrival in Indonesia.

Important! Starting from 28 August 2024, Indonesia introduces new entry rules for foreign nationals. From now on, a special medical pass in the format of a QR code is required to pass border control. It can be obtained by filling out an electronic form on the official portal. This measure was introduced to prevent the spread of monkeypox in the country. Without such a QR code, it will be impossible to cross the Indonesian border.

Penalties for visa violators in Indonesia in 2024

Indonesian paradise can turn into hell for careless tourists. As part of Operation Jagrathara 2024, the country's authorities are drastically tightening migration legislation, turning once minor violations into serious crimes with severe penalties.

From now on, an overstayed visa can cost visitors decades behind bars rather than a few months. The new law increases the penalty for overstaying from 6-12 months to a staggering 10-20 years. For those who manage to commit more serious offences, the penalties are even more severe - up to life imprisonment.

To implement the new strategy, an additional 125 special inspectors will take to the streets of Indonesian cities. Their task is to identify and detain visa violators.

According to Silmi Karim, Director General of Immigration, this measure has a dual purpose. On the one hand, it is designed to punish violators, and on the other hand, it serves as a powerful warning to potential offenders.

‘Now foreigners will think twice before breaking our laws,’ the official emphasises.

That is why you need to carefully monitor the validity of your visa.
