Ukrainian borders are open to foreign visitors. Tourists continue to come to Ukraine even in spite of hostilities. In particular, more than 2.4 million foreigners entered Ukraine, and this trend will continue in 2024.
Most often, foreigners come to Ukraine on personal visits, on trips and as part of volunteer missions. However, in closed airspace, traveling to Ukraine has its own characteristics. It is also necessary to observe certain safety rules during the trip.

Flight from Azerbaijan to the Ukrainian border + train/bus
The most convenient and fastest way to get to Ukraine is to fly to one of the airports in Europe, which is located near the Ukrainian border, and from there continue the journey by land transport - by train or bus.
Ukraine borders Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova. There are flights to these countries from Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan – Poland
- Warsaw can be reached by direct flight from Baku. Departure on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The price of the ticket is about 220 euros, the travel time is 4 hours and 50 minutes. Flights with a connection in Budapest or Milan are also available, here the ticket price is lower, from 120 euros, departures are daily, but the duration of the trip is about 12 hours.
- Krakow is one of the closest Polish airports to the Ukrainian border, where you can also fly from Baku, but only with a transfer, usually in Warsaw. The duration of the trip is 10-12 hours. The price of the ticket is 250 euros. The flight is operated by the Polish airline LOT, but also several times a week.

Azerbaijan – Moldova
There are direct flights from Baku to Chisinau airport on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Ticket price from 175 euros. Travel time - 3 hours 30 minutes, departure at 09:25, arrival in Baku - 10:55.
The distance to the Ukrainian border from Chisinau is 130 km - Palanka checkpoint (Odesa region). The nearest large Ukrainian city: Odesa. Tourists planning a trip to the southern regions of Ukraine should choose a flight to Chisinau airport.
There is a direct train from Chisinau to Kyiv. Bus transfers to Odessa are also available.
Azerbaijan – Slovakia
You can fly from Azerbaijan to the Slovak airport of Košice, which is closest to the Ukrainian border, only with transfers, often even with independent ones. Available departure from Baku. The duration of such a trip is about 12-20 hours. Ticket price from 200 euros.

Azerbaijan – Hungary
You can get to Budapest from Baku by direct flight. Travel time is about 4 hours 25 minutes, ticket price from 50 euros, departure three times a week - on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Azerbaijan – Romania
- There is a daily flight from Baku to Bucharest with a stopover in Rome or Istanbul. Travel time is 9-12 hours. The ticket price is from 150 euros.
- Flights to Suceava are available only with individual transfers. You can easily get to Chernivtsi from Suceava, there is a daily bus from the bus station, the journey to Chernivtsi takes 2-3 hours.

Rules of entry for citizens of Azerbaijan to Ukraine in 2024
● Visa is not required. Citizens of Azerbaijan have the right to stay in Ukraine without a visa for up to 90 days, if the purpose of the trip is tourism, visiting relatives, treatment, etc.
If the duration of your stay exceeds 90 days or you plan to work or study in Ukraine, then before traveling you need to apply for a long-term visa (type "D") at the Ukrainian embassy or consulate in Azerbaijan. It is better to start the procedure at least 3 months before the planned trip.
● Entry into Ukraine is based on a valid foreign passport, , which must have at least one blank page for the input stamp.
Also, to cross the Ukrainian border, you must provide:

Confirmation of the purpose of the trip: a notarized invitation from citizens of Ukraine (relatives, acquaintances, friends), travel vouchers, confirmation of accommodation reservations, invitations from companies or organizations, tickets to seminars, exhibitions, fairs, documents about treatment in medical facilities, etc.
3. Confirmation of financial support (cash, bank statement, check from an ATM, etc.) - proof that you have sufficient funds for the entire period of your planned stay in Ukraine or transit to a third country ($45 per person for each day of your stay in Ukraine ).
