The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine intends to finalise a draft law on the procedure and conditions for discharging military personnel from service by 18 December this year.

Defence Ministry plans for demobilisation

Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, told Ukrayinska Pravda that the Committee had made an official request to the Ministry of Defence to draft a bill defining the procedure and conditions for discharging certain categories of military personnel during martial law.

Recently, we received a response stating that, according to the MoD's plan, the draft will be ready within the timeframe set by the Parliament - by 18 December 2024.

At the same time, it is not yet known what mechanisms the Ministry of Defence will propose for discharging servicemen from service.

What preceded this?

As you know, the clause on demobilisation was removed from the main law on mobilisation in Ukraine, adopted in April this year. It was removed from the document on the initiative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.

However, the Verkhovna Rada obliged the Ministry of Defence to draft a relevant bill within 8 months.

It is worth remembering that russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine has been going on for almost three years now, as has the mobilisation of the Armed Forces. Many soldiers have been at the front since the beginning of the Russian aggression.

Those called up for mobilisation after 24 February 2022 serve until the end of martial law or demobilisation. They can resign on the grounds provided for by law if they have documents confirming them.

We remind you! A new opinion poll has shown that the number of Ukrainian citizens who are ready for territorial concessions for peace has increased. We wrote about the percentage of Ukrainians who support this outcome of the war.
