In the coming days, the Carpathian Mountains will be subject to an increased risk of avalanches. The State Emergency Service has warned tourists of the danger.

When should you not go to the mountains?

According to rescuers, on 7-8 January, due to warming, avalanche hazard is expected in the highlands of Ivano-Frankivsk and the eastern part of Zakarpattia regions. Therefore, the third level of danger has been declared.

How to prepare for a hike in the mountains?

❗️ Do not go to the mountains alone. Always choose a reliable partner or group.

❗️ Check the weather forecast. In case of a storm warning, cancel your plans.

❗️ Be careful and carefully inspect the slopes before you walk or drive.

❗️ Avoid dangerous areas. Stay away from the edges of the snow cover.

It is also important to be prepared for your trip in advance. We recommend taking out an Extreme Protection insurance policy, which is designed specifically for outdoor enthusiasts. You can take out an insurance policy by clicking on these links - for Ukrainians / for foreigners.

It should be noted that emergency services are closely monitoring the situation in the mountains, as the tourist season is currently underway there. One thing to keep in mind is that this year, avalanches have already been recorded in the Carpathians. In particular, in Ivano-Frankivsk region, an avalanche of blizzard snow was detected during an inspection of avalanche centres on the eastern slope of Mt. Bretskul. Its volume is 1280 cubic metres. The avalanche occurred on 6 January.

We remind you! Earlier, we told you about Dragobrat, the highest ski resort in the Ukrainian Carpathians and a favourite among outdoor enthusiasts.
