A new ecological route called “To the Guardians of Nedei” has been laid in the Vyzhnytsia district of Chernivtsi region. It connects the popular ski resort of Migovo with the village of Beregomet and is four kilometers long.

The trail is designed for hikers of any level of fitness and promises not only picturesque views, but also a real journey back in time.

What awaits travelers?

The main highlight of the route is the open-air museum “Guardians of Nedei” located in the territory of the National Nature Park “Vyzhnytskyi”. It is built on the site of an ancient Neolithic sanctuary, which is about 7 thousand years old.

At the top of Mount Stizhok, among the wild forest, you can see mysterious megalithic figures:

a fish

a dragon lizard,

a bear,

and the ancient Mother Earth Goddess.

They seem to be standing guard, facing the northeast, and meet the sun during the summer solstice. This is why the place was named “Guardians of Nedei”, because the word “Nedei” in the ancient Hutsul language means “wild mountain top”.

In addition to megaliths, solar symbols, petroglyphs, and one of the oldest solar calendars are carved on the stones of the complex.

Safety on the route

Before opening the route, mountain rescuers together with the employees of the Vyzhnytskyi National Nature Park thoroughly examined it. Specialists of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Chernivtsi region checked all difficult areas, identified places where you need to be especially careful, and updated the route markings.

This trail is a great option for combining active and educational recreation. In winter, tourists can go skiing in Migovo, and in the rest of the year, they can go hiking, discovering the secrets of the ancient world.

The development of eco-tourism in the region contributes to the preservation of Bukovyna's natural resources and the popularization of its unique historical and cultural heritage.
