When and why are the restrictions being introduced?

According to official information, the restrictions will come into force tomorrow at 5 a.m.

The main reason is bad weather. Difficult meteorological conditions make transport movement dangerous and difficult.

The restrictions apply to all types of transport:

▪️ Passenger transport (buses, cars).

▪️ Trucks.

Recommendations for drivers and travellers

Border guards strongly recommend refraining from travelling in this direction until weather conditions improve and restrictions are lifted.

❗️ Postpone your trip if it is not critical.

❗️ Follow updates on the official resources of the State Border Service of Ukraine, as the situation may change rapidly.

❗️ If you are already on the road, look for safe places to park away from the border so as not to create traffic jams.

The situation on the roads in Ukraine

Ukraine has been hit by bad weather - after snowfall and a sharp thaw, the roads have turned into an ice rink. The most difficult situation is observed in Kyiv and on key routes, but the problems have already spread to other regions.

Social media is flooded with videos showing multi-kilometre traffic jams, accidents and stranded vehicles.

Due to snowfall, traffic on the Odessa-Kyiv motorway came to a standstill in some places, and in others, cars were stuck in snowdrifts.

In addition, the condition of the M-05 Kyiv-Odesa motorway has deteriorated sharply. Photos and videos of numerous potholes are being posted online. After the thaw, the road surface has become dangerous: cars are moving at a snail's pace, potholes are invisible in the dark, and the most common consequence is damage to the chassis. Some vehicles ended up on the side of the road waiting for tow trucks.

Road services are carrying out emergency repairs with cold asphalt concrete mixtures and are asking drivers not to leave their cars on the side of the road so as not to interfere with the work of the equipment.

Planning a trip abroad in your own car?
