Condé Nast Traveller has named seven new wonders of the world that are worth visiting in 2026. Find out which countries made the list and how they will surprise tourists
Every year, it becomes increasingly difficult for travelers to find new locations that combine authenticity, atmosphere, and the absence of crowds. That is why the travel experts at Condé Nast Traveller magazine have identified seven new wonders of the world that are worth visiting in 2026.
As the authors of the ranking note, if only the Great Pyramid of Giza has survived from the list of the seven wonders of the ancient world to the present day, then modern wonders should be sought among national parks, historic cities, and little-known islands. From the Paleolithic caves of Italy to the mountain ranges of Canada, each of these locations is capable of captivating visitors from the very first minute of their stay.
Matera, Italy — Mediterranean Capital of Culture 2026
In 2026, Matera will become the Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue. Throughout the year, there will be art residencies, film screenings, and live performances dedicated to the theme of Terre Immerse (“submerged lands”).
The city is known for its Paleolithic caves, where families lived and kept livestock until the 1950s. Some of them have been converted into boutique hotels. Tourists are attracted by the winding staircases, canyons, rocky ravines, and Baroque palazzos that form the unique landscape of southern Italy.
Banff National Park, Canada — a mountain classic with a new route
Banff is Canada's oldest national park, famous for its ski slopes. However, in the warm season, it offers horseback riding, rock climbing, canoeing, and hiking among turquoise lakes and alpine meadows.
In 2026, a new railway route will be launched, connecting Banff with Jasper National Park. It will be operated by Rocky Mountaineer. The route is available in June and July, and tickets are recommended to be booked in advance — during this period, Canada will host the FIFA World Cup matches.
The tour program includes a gondola ride up Mount Cerna and an ice buggy ride to the Athabasca Glacier.
Bradford Pennines Nature Reserve, England — the restrained nature of a royal initiative
Bradford Pennines Nature Reserve is part of a national initiative to preserve the natural heritage of Great Britain. The 1,272-hectare area is located in the region where the Brontë sisters lived.
Here, tourists will find heathland, sandstone cliffs, medieval bridges, hidden waterfalls, and traditional English pubs. New routes connect the villages of Haworth, Stanbury, and Thornton into a single walking area.

Djemila, Algeria — Roman heritage among the mountains
Algeria remains one of the least visited countries in Africa due to years of instability and complicated visa procedures. However, the Roman ruins of Djemila are an undeniable gem in the north of the country.
The city was founded by Emperor Septimius Severus for veteran centurions. The forum, basilicas, and arches are located amid a mountainous landscape. Archaeologists note that less than 40% of the territory has been excavated, making this place even more promising for research.
Faroe Islands — gastronomy and wild landscapes
The Faroe Islands offer puffin watching, sea kayaking, and visits to the villages of Gasaadur and Saksun.
In the capital, Tórshavn, tourists are attracted by world-class restaurants, including Raest, which has been awarded a Michelin star. Here, traditional island delicacies are served in combination with seaweed, sea urchins, and langoustines.
Richterveld, South Africa — lunar landscapes and rock art
Richterveld National Park is located near the border with Namibia. Quartz and granite formations create an almost lunar landscape with quiver trees and occasional leopard tracks.
Of particular value are rock paintings dating from 200 to 10,000 years old, which are believed to reflect the visions of the Nama people during shamanic rituals.
El Imposible National Park, El Salvador — the wild nature of Central America
El Imposible is one of the least known nature reserves in the region. It features deep canyons, pumas, and waterfalls.
The main legend of the park is the dangerous path that farmers used to transport coffee to the port of Acajutla. The trail ran along a ridge several centimeters wide with precipices on both sides. Mules crossed the bridge blindfolded. Today, a new bridge has been built, but the route retains its historical atmosphere.
