Emirates, the world's largest international airline, has announced that it is preparing to resume full operations on its route network after a week-long hiatus. The flight disruptions were caused by missile strikes from Iran and the escalating security situation in the region.

According to Bloomberg, the resumption of commercial flights depends on the availability of airspace and compliance with all operational and security requirements.

Gradual resumption of flights

The company reported that on March 5, approximately 30,000 passengers were transported from Dubai. The airline is gradually returning to its normal schedule.

By Saturday, March 7 — about a week after the start of hostilities — Emirates plans to operate 106 daily flights to 83 destinations, representing nearly 60% of the airline's full route network.

Flights to Europe, India, and the US

After partially resuming flights, the airline plans to actively increase flights to key markets:

to the UK — 11 daily flights to five airports;

to India — 22 daily flights to nine cities;

to the US — currently operating 7 routes.

In this way, Emirates is trying to restore global air traffic as quickly as possible and stabilize passenger traffic after the forced restrictions.

Other airlines are also changing their plans

Another major carrier in the region, Etihad Airways, has also announced a gradual resumption of flights to approximately 70 destinations.

At the same time, Qatar Airways, the second-largest airline in the Persian Gulf region, as well as carriers from Bahrain and Kuwait, have not yet resumed flights, as the airspace over some countries in the region remains closed.

European airlines are taking advantage of the situation

The pause in flights by some carriers has created opportunities for competitors. In particular, German airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG has announced its intention to increase capacity on long-haul flights to Asia and Africa.

The company's CFO, Till Straichert, noted that the current situation could affect global travel routes.

According to him, security issues in the Persian Gulf region could lead to an increase in transit traffic through European air hubs, as well as an increase in the number of flights to the US.

What does this mean for passengers?

The gradual resumption of Emirates' operations is an important signal for international aviation, as the airline plays a key role in global transportation between Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. The resumption of flights will help stabilize international travel and reduce delays in air traffic between continents.
