Demand for international rail travel from Ukraine to Europe remains consistently high, especially as the vacation season approaches. As a result, tickets for popular destinations often sell out within the first few days of going on sale. However, even under these conditions, there are ways to find available seats. Representatives of Ukrzaliznytsia explained this in a comment to UNIAN.

Which countries are accessible by train from Ukraine?

As of now, Ukraine has direct rail connections with several European countries:

● Poland (Chełm, Przemyśl, Warsaw);

● Moldova (Chișinău);

● Hungary (Budapest, Nyíregyháza, Szeged);

● Austria (Vienna);

● Slovakia (Košice, Bratislava);

● Czech Republic (Prague);

● Romania (Bucharest).

The routes with the highest demand are traditionally:

● Kyiv – Przemyśl, Warsaw, Vienna, Chișinău, Budapest;

● Kyiv – Chełm;

● Kharkiv – Przemyśl and Chełm;

● Kremenchuk – Przemyśl;

● Odesa – Przemyśl.

Tickets for these routes sell out the fastest.

When does ticket sales for international trains open?

Tickets for long-distance trains can be purchased:

● 20 days before departure — for most routes;

● 10 days before departure — for routes to frontline territories.

Sales begin daily at 8:00 AM via the automated system—both online and at ticket offices.

According to the carrier’s representatives, tickets for popular routes sell out within the first two days.

That is why it’s worth planning your trip in advance and booking seats immediately after sales open. By the way, if you need to quickly check seat availability or find alternative routes, it’s convenient to do so via the Visit Ukraine ticket booking system—it allows you to compare different transportation options and choose the best route without unnecessary searching.

How to buy a ticket online and why is verification required?

Tickets can be purchased via the Ukrzaliznytsia mobile app, on the carrier’s website, or at railway ticket offices.

However, for some popular international routes (for example, to Warsaw or Vienna), there is a restriction: sales are primarily conducted through the app with verification via “Dii.” This is done to combat ticket scalpers.

Alternative verification methods are also available, such as via BankID—if you do not have access to “Diya.” It is important to note that Ukrzaliznytsia allows you to purchase tickets without additional verification on at least one train in each direction.

For which trains can you buy tickets without “Diya”?

Trains that currently do not require electronic verification include:

● No. 119/120 Dnipro – Kholm;

● No. 35/36 Odesa – Przemyśl;

● No. 705/706, No. 715/716 Kyiv – Przemyśl;

● No. 99/100 Kyiv – Bucharest;

● No. 143/146 Vienna – Chop;

● No. 93/94 Kharkiv – Kholm;

● No. 63/64 Kharkiv – Przemyśl;

● No. 961/960 Mukachevo – Košice;

● No. 765/766 Rava-Ruska – Warsaw.

This is an important option for those who do not use digital services.

Why do tickets become available even after they’ve sold out?

Even if the system shows no seats available, this does not mean there are no more tickets. Available seats may appear throughout the entire sales period, particularly when passengers return tickets, as well as when seats reserved for priority categories become available for sale. Such tickets immediately become available across all sales channels.

The “Ukrzaliznytsia” app offers two useful features:

1. Ticket monitoring. Allows you to track the availability of seats for a specific train or date.

2. Automatic ticket purchase. The system can automatically purchase a ticket if one becomes available.

To do this, you need to:

● log in via “Diya.Signature”;

● enter passenger details;

● pay for the ticket in advance.

If a ticket does not become available or the monitoring is canceled, the funds are automatically refunded.

Users are also advised to check that push notifications are enabled so they don’t miss when seats become available.

We remind you! Ukrzaliznytsia is introducing dynamic pricing for SV premium cars and Intercity+ 1st class. Read how ticket prices will change depending on the season, day of the week, demand, and date of purchase.
