Switzerland offers up to 27,000 euros to relocate: what are the conditions, and who is eligible?

Switzerland is offering a financial incentive to relocate—but not everyone will be able to take advantage of this opportunity. As reported by Mediafax, this concerns the village of Albinen, where local authorities are trying to stem the population decline and attract new residents.

Why is Switzerland paying people to move to the village of Albinen?

The village of Albinen is located in the Swiss Alps and has a population of about 260. Due to the gradual decline in population, the authorities decided to offer financial incentives to those willing to move and settle there permanently.

The payment amounts to approximately 25,000 Swiss francs per person (about 27,665 euros). The idea is simple: to attract young families and active people who can support the community.

According to travel blogger Ben Morris, who visited Albinen, the village looks like a “postcard”—with mountains, green hills, and traditional architecture. At the same time, he describes it as a very quiet place, almost deserted.

What conditions must be met to receive the payment?

Despite the attractive amount, getting the money isn’t easy. The program has clear requirements:

● You must buy, build, or completely renovate a home;

● The property must be worth at least 200,000 Swiss francs;

● the property must be a primary residence, not a seasonal home;

● you must live in the village for at least 10 years.

Thus, the financial assistance is effectively a long-term investment in community life, not a quick way to get money.

Who can apply?

The program also imposes a number of restrictions on applicants:

● age — up to 45 years old;

● Swiss citizenship or a permanent residence permit (category C).

Despite the sensational headlines about “money for moving,” the program’s conditions make it accessible only to a limited group of people. The high housing investment threshold, the 10-year residency requirement, and legal restrictions effectively rule out most potential candidates.

For Ukrainians considering a move to Europe, it is important to carefully evaluate such programs. They may seem attractive, but they often come with complex conditions and restrictions. Before planning a move abroad, it’s important to take care not only of housing or a job but also of basic necessities—including health insurance. This is a mandatory requirement for many European countries. You can purchase a policy for traveling abroad in advance through Visit Ukraine—this helps avoid risks and simplifies preparations for travel or relocation.
