In April 2026, strikes will take place in Spain that will affect airport operations. Find out when they are happening, how they will impact passengers, and how to prepare for your trip
In April 2026, ground handling staff strikes continue in Spain, which could disrupt operations at the country’s key airports. As reported by Euronews, the disruptions will affect at least 19 airports, including the largest transportation hubs.
These include airports such as Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, Barcelona–El Prat Airport, and Palma de Mallorca Airport. These facilities are critical for international and domestic air travel, so the strikes could affect a significant number of flights.
When will the strikes take place in Spain?
According to Euronews, the strikes in April will take place on specific days:
● Dates: April 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6;
● Time slots: 5:00 AM – 7:00 AM, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM, 10:00 PM – 12:00 AM.

What are the implications for passengers?
The main reason for the strikes is workers’ demands for higher wages. As a result, passengers should be prepared for the following:
● flight delays;
● longer check-in and baggage drop-off times;
● changes to departure and arrival schedules.
This is especially true for major airports, where traffic is traditionally heavy.
Due to the strikes, travelers are advised to plan their trips in advance and account for possible delays. Key tips:
● check your flight status before heading to the airport;
● arrive earlier than usual;
● allow extra time for security screening.
It’s also worth considering alternative modes of transportation, especially if your trip involves connecting flights. For example, in case of flight schedule changes, you can quickly find other routes—trains or buses—through Visit Ukraine, where a ticket booking system for various modes of transport is available in one place.
