From space to private islands: the world’s most expensive and exclusive tours revealed
Global tourism is changing: instead of popular destinations, travelers are now opting for exclusive trips to space, Antarctica, and private islands. Find out which tours are considered the most expensive and what they offer to affluent travelers
The world of luxury tourism is changing: instead of classic destinations like Venice, affluent travelers are increasingly opting for unique experiences far from the crowds. As Euronews Travel notes, citing a study by the World Luxury Chamber of Commerce, the primary value today is no longer ownership, but access to rare experiences.
Experts have identified the five most exclusive travel formats shaping new trends in premium tourism.
Round-the-world trips by private jet
Travel by private jet is becoming increasingly popular—in particular thanks to the development of charter services and fractional ownership models. Four Seasons offers fully organized round-the-world tours lasting 20 to 24 days. Routes include destinations such as Bora Bora, the Galápagos Islands, Petra, Kyoto, the Maldives, the Serengeti, and Iceland. The program includes:
● private tours;
● cultural events and workshops (such as samurai sword duels in Tokyo);
● accommodations at Four Seasons hotels;
● full support and transportation.
The cost of such a trip starts at approximately $219,000.
Private Island Rentals
Another popular option is renting an entire island for private events or vacations. Among the most famous options:
● Banwa Private Island (Philippines);
● Calivigny Island (Grenada);
● Laucala Island (Fiji);
● Richard Branson’s Necker Island (British Virgin Islands);
● David Copperfield’s Musha Cay (Bahamas).
These locations offer maximum privacy, personalized service, a butler, private runways, and custom entertainment—from open-air movie screenings to excursions and water activities.
Prices vary: from approximately $46,000 per night in the Maldives to $100,000 per day in the Philippines.

Space Travel
One of the most ambitious trends is tourism beyond Earth. Options include:
● suborbital flights from Blue Origin (10–11 minutes);
● flights on a Virgin spaceplane (about 90 minutes);
● orbital missions on SpaceX’s Crew Dragon.
During such trips, passengers can experience weightlessness and see Earth from space. The most expensive option—a full-fledged orbital mission—costs about $55 million per person.
Polar Expeditions
The Arctic and Antarctic are becoming new hotspots for lovers of extreme and exclusive travel. White Desert organizes private tours deep into Antarctica with flights from Cape Town.
Tourists stay in high-tech camps such as Echo, Wolf’s Fang, or Whichaway. The program includes:
● a visit to the South Pole;
● an encounter with a colony of emperor penguins (about 28,000 individuals);
● ice climbing, hikes through ice tunnels, and other activities.
Prices start at $70,000 for 7–8 days.
Scenic Cruises also offers six-star Arctic cruises featuring submarines, helicopters, and expert guidance from scientists.
Multi-month cruises around the world
Cruises remain one of the most convenient formats for premium tourism thanks to the all-inclusive concept. Regent Seven Seas Cruises offers voyages lasting over 140 days aboard the Seven Seas Splendour and Seven Seas Voyager. The price includes:
● accommodation in suites with balconies;
● gourmet cuisine and premium beverages;
● excursions in dozens of countries;
● entertainment and educational programs;
● spa and wellness services.
Tip: Despite the high level of service, even the most expensive trips require careful preparation of documents. In particular, medical insurance is mandatory for international travel—it’s best to arrange it in advance to avoid unexpected expenses during your trip.
