Syrsky has signed a decree on the mandatory rotation of troops on the front line: key details
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has introduced new rotation rules: from now on, service at the front line is limited to a specific period. Find out how long soldiers can remain at the front line
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi has signed an order on the mandatory rotation of military personnel. The document ensures the timely replacement of troops who have been on the front line for more than two months. In this article, we will examine in detail the new terms of service in combat positions, the mandatory conditions for rest, and the consequences for army leadership in the event of a breach of the order.
Rotation in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: new rules
According to the Commander-in-Chief’s new order, military personnel may remain in combat positions on the front line for no more than two months. Upon completion of this period, commanders are obliged to carry out a mandatory rotation of personnel within a period not exceeding one month.
What are the conditions for soldiers’ rest after frontline duty?
Commanders are obliged to plan personnel rotations in advance, taking into account the current combat situation, as well as available forces and resources. The main aim of the new order is to safeguard the lives and health of the defenders carrying out combat duties both on the front line and in the rear. A key aspect is the mandatory medical examination following the completion of combat duties at the positions. Soldiers are also guaranteed the necessary time for proper rest, and the timely supply of food and ammunition is ensured.
What will be the consequences of violating the rotation order?
Compliance with the established periods of service at the front is subject to strict monitoring. The Commander-in-Chief emphasised that commanders who fail to comply with the order will face inevitable consequences in accordance with current legislation and the statutes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This order is strict and must be followed by absolutely all units stationed at the front.

How will this decree affect the mobilisation process in Ukraine?
Clear terms of service at the front line may partially alleviate social tensions surrounding mobilisation issues. As previously stated by the military ombudsman Olga Reshetilova, Ukraine is currently experiencing a mobilisation crisis, with a potential reserve of around 1.6 million citizens who have not yet served. Bringing order to the rotation processes is intended to improve this situation. Previously, the military ombudsman reported on identified cases where entire units merely pretended to be at the front, remaining deep in the rear and handing over their salaries to the leadership.
Reminder! Military registration rules are changing, and you can now extend your deferment directly via your smartphone. Most statuses are updated online via the ‘Reserve+’ app, but due to a lack of data in the registers, many will still need to visit in person.
