The Five Best Beach Destinations in Asia for Summer 2026: Where Are Tourists Going Instead of the Middle East?
Due to the security crisis in the Middle East, tourists are flocking to find alternatives for summer vacations in Asia. Find out which five coastal destinations have become the most popular this season, according to data from the Agoda platform
Against the backdrop of the security crisis in the Middle East caused by the war in Iran, Western tourists are increasingly looking for alternative vacation destinations — and are more and more often choosing Asia. The digital travel platform Agoda has identified five coastal destinations that are gaining particular popularity among travelers this summer. This was reported by PRNewswire.
“Coastal destinations continue to be popular because they offer simplicity and flexibility. Travelers are looking for places where they can quickly escape the daily grind, relax, and at the same time have enough variety around them — whether it’s food, local culture, or nearby entertainment — to shape their trip as they go,” said Andrew Smith, Senior Vice President of Supply at Agoda.

Da Nang, Vietnam: 72% increase in interest
Da Nang, Vietnam, saw the biggest jump in popularity among all five destinations — interest in the city rose by 72% compared to last year. The appeal of this destination lies in the combination of the long, swimmable coastline of My Khe Beach with easy access to nearby attractions: the Marble Mountains and the historic streets of the ancient town of Hoi An. An added bonus is the well-developed network of cafes and seafood restaurants, which transforms Da Nang into a full-fledged resort for those who want to do more than just lie on the beach.
Nha Trang, Vietnam: A classic beach getaway with a cultural twist
Another Vietnamese resort — Nha Trang — is known for its wide bay and coastline dotted with islands. Interest in it has grown by 36% this year. Visitors typically combine relaxing on the main beach with boat trips to neighboring islands for snorkeling and visits to cultural sites — notably the Po Nagar Cham Towers. It is this balanced combination of relaxation and immersion in local culture that makes Nha Trang appealing to a wide range of tourists.

Bali, Indonesia: Diversity Within a Single Island
Although Bali has long been among the world’s most popular tourist destinations, the island saw a 13% increase in interest this summer.
The beach areas here cater to different audiences: Canggu attracts surfers and fans of café culture, while Uluwatu draws visitors with its breathtaking coastal views and temple complexes. For those who want to get away from the sea, it’s worth venturing inland — Ubud offers rice terraces, wellness centers, and art-related events.
Goa, India: colonial architecture, seafood, and diverse beaches
This former Portuguese colony in western India has long been considered one of the country’s most popular beach destinations, and interest in it has grown by another 13% over the past year. Goa attracts visitors with its diverse coastline: the quieter stretches in the south stand in stark contrast to the lively beaches in the north. The picture is rounded out by a unique atmosphere — European architecture, a thriving seafood culture, and colorful markets.
Pattaya, Thailand: Easy Access and Island Getaways
Pattaya — a coastal resort city easily accessible from Bangkok—saw an 11% increase in interest this summer. The main beach area remains lively, but the nearby islands are a real find for those seeking tranquility — particularly Koh Larn, with its clearer waters and more laid-back atmosphere, ideal for day trips. A wide selection of restaurants, entertainment, and short-term accommodation options makes Pattaya a convenient and flexible choice for any type of traveler.
The selection of these locations is based on domestic accommodation search data for May — all five destinations showed a noticeable increase in interest compared to last year. According to Agoda experts, a distinctive feature of these places is the variety of experiences available within a compact area: in addition to beach vacations, there are culinary attractions, local markets, cultural sites, and natural locations that can be explored without extensive planning.
