Discussions are underway in Ukraine regarding the simplification of the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) for future university admissions. This was reported by MP Yulia Grishina in a comment to Novosti.LIVE during the ‘Cities and Regions Summit’. She emphasised that the government is exploring options to make the admissions process less stressful for students. A final decision on reducing the number of subjects has not yet been made; the matter is currently under discussion.

The number of EIT subjects may be reduced

Currently, school leavers bear a huge burden, sitting four subjects at once. During the ‘Cities and Regions Summit’, Grishina told journalists that officials are considering the option of reducing the number of tests.

This involves a return to a less demanding format — three subjects instead of the current four.

Will it be possible to reschedule the NMT due to shelling?

Test-takers who were caught in Russian shelling the night before the exam are to be officially allowed to reschedule their NMT to another day. As Grishina emphasised, a child who is in a state of severe stress following an attack is not obliged to sit the exam at the last minute — they will have the opportunity to take the test later, in a calmer environment.

Frequantly
asked questions
Which subjects are compulsory for the NMT?
The test format is regularly updated, but the core structure remains the same. Applicants must sit the Ukrainian language and mathematics papers. The third compulsory subject is traditionally the history of Ukraine, covering the period from the 16th century to the present day. The remaining subjects — a foreign language, biology, physics, chemistry, geography or Ukrainian literature — are chosen by the student themselves, depending on the requirements of the specific degree programme at the university.
