Ukrzaliznytsia Prepares for the 2026 Summer Season: 7 Daily Train Services and the Resumption of the Legendary Sumy–Rakhiv Route
Ukrzaliznytsia has announced changes to the schedule starting this summer — seven routes will switch to daily service, and the Sumy – Rakhiv train will resume operations after a hiatus. Find out which routes are becoming more frequent and how to buy tickets in advance
With the start of the summer season, Ukrzaliznytsia is changing the schedules for a number of trains. This was announced by the company’s press service. The rationale behind the changes is simple: where demand is lower, the number of cars is reduced and they are redeployed to routes with higher demand. Given the shortage of rolling stock, this allows for the scheduling of additional trains and an increase in their capacity where it is most needed.

Seven train pairs are switching to daily service
In the near future, seven train pairs will be moved to the daily schedule:
● No. 4/3 Uzhhorod — Dnipro
● No. 86/85 Lviv — Zaporizhzhia
● No. 128/127 Lviv — Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia
● No. 78/77 Kovel — Odesa
● No. 88/87 Kovel — Dnipro
● No. 7/8 Kharkiv — Odesa
● No. 121/122 Mykolaiv — Kyiv
This means that tickets on these routes will become more affordable and getting on a train will be much easier than before.

Resumption of the Sumy–Rakhiv train: reconnecting the North and West
It is worth noting the resumption of train No. 143/144 on the Sumy–Rakhiv route. This route connected Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Sivershchyna with the western part of the country and is now returning.
According to the UZ press service, the route “will once again connect Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Sivershchyna with the western part of the country and provide direct service from Sumy, Bilopillya, and Konotop to Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk,
Yaremche, and Vorokhta.”
Additional Kyiv–Chernivtsi Train: via Vinnytsia, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk
Another change is the introduction of an additional train No. 227/228 Kyiv–Chernivtsi. It will run every other day and pass through Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Kolomyia.
The route covers a significant part of the western and central regions of the country, making it convenient both for vacation trips to Bukovina and for those returning to their hometowns along the way.
We remind you! Russian attacks on infrastructure have led to a reduction in Ukrzaliznytsia’s rolling stock—hundreds of railcars have been destroyed or damaged. Against this backdrop, the summer season promises a record shortage of seats, with up to six people vying for a single ticket. Read how many cars have been destroyed and what the carrier advises.
