Ukrainian “Flamingo” missiles have launched fresh strikes against Russia: a strategic factory was targeted

The latest Ukrainian ‘Flamingo’ missiles and kamikaze drones continue to destroy Russia’s military capabilities deep behind enemy lines. Powerful explosions were heard at a strategic plant in Cheboksary, the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery and in the Black Sea, where a Russian camouflaged tanker was sunk. Find out all the details of the large-scale night-time attack

On the night of 10 June, Russian territory came under a large-scale and effective strike by Ukrainian long-range missiles and drones. The main targets were the aggressor state’s military-industrial complex, oil infrastructure and logistics. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially confirmed the successful deployment of the latest weaponry — the FP-5 Flamingo missiles.

Strike on the ‘VNIIR-Progress’ plant in Cheboksary

The ‘Flamingo’ missiles struck the strategically important ‘VNIIR-Progress’ plant in the Republic of Chuvashia. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the successful destruction of the target and a large-scale fire on the premises.

This factory plays a critical role in the Russian defence industry. The facility is one of the main manufacturers of navigation equipment for high-precision weapons. It is here that satellite navigation receivers and ‘Kometa’-type shielded antennas are manufactured, without which the precise guidance of Shahed-type strike drones (Geran-2), ‘Kalibr’ cruise missiles, ‘Iskander-M’ systems and guided aerial bombs would be impossible.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy separately thanked the Armed Forces of Ukraine for the pinpoint accuracy of the strike, emphasising that the destruction of this plant deprives the occupying army of vital components for its missile and drone terror.

What do you need to know about the new FP-5 ‘Flamingo’ missiles?

FP-5 ‘Flamingo’ is a Ukrainian long-range ground-based cruise missile developed by the domestic company Fire Point. The missile was first announced in August 2025 and has already entered serial production.

The main advantage of the ‘Flamingo’ is its ability to carry a massive warhead over considerable distances, enabling it to strike strategic targets deep within Russian territory. The missile’s body is made of radar-transparent fibreglass, making it difficult for enemy radars to detect.

Key missile specifications:

Range: up to 3,000 km (covering the entire European part of the Russian Federation).

Warhead weight: 1,150 kg (2.5 times heavier than that of the American Tomahawk).

Cruising speed: 850–900 km/h.

Engine: turbojet (Ivchenko AI-25 variant).

Guidance system: satellite-based (GNSS) with electronic warfare protection, as well as inertial.

Fire at the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery and attack on Russian oil depots

In addition to the military plant, the Special Operations Forces (SSO), the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) dealt a powerful blow to the Russian Federation’s economic base. Ukrainian strike drones successfully covered over 900 kilometres from the front line and attacked the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery in the Samara Region.

Explosions were heard and a major fire broke out at the facility, which has a capacity of around 7 million tonnes of oil per year (2.5% of Russia’s total oil refining output). Details of the damage are currently being ascertained.

In addition, a precision strike reached the Vladimir region: Ukrainian special forces successfully struck two major Russian oil infrastructure facilities 700 kilometres away.

Russian shadow fleet tanker WEST Horizon struck in the Black Sea

Successful operations by Ukrainian forces last night also targeted maritime routes used to circumvent sanctions. In the Black Sea, the large tanker WEST Horizon, part of the Russian shadow fleet, was attacked. According to official information from the General Staff, the special operation confirmed serious damage to the vessel’s propeller and rudder assembly, which completely immobilised the tanker and removed it from the occupiers’ logistics chain.

Reminder! Ukrainian drones equipped with artificial intelligence have learned to bypass electronic warfare systems and penetrate air defences, autonomously destroying oil infrastructure deep within Russian territory. Find out how Palantir software provides Kyiv with this technological advantage and why the window of opportunity is closing.
