With the recent changes in the legislation, Ukrainians in Belgium do not receive refugee status, but the official status of temporary protection with a residence and work permit in the country of type A until 04.03.2025.

The status of temporary protection guarantees Ukrainians from the state:

1. minimum social benefits;
2. health insurance;
3. free language learning;
4. assistance in employment;
5. opportunity for children to attend kindergartens and schools.

Temporary protection status does not determine the minimum duration of stay in Belgium. With it you can freely go to Ukraine, but you need to wait until you receive an A card.

Registration is required:

a document with a photo proving the citizenship of Ukraine (passport, ID card, driver's license);

if you come with your family - documents proving family ties (marriage certificate, birth certificate).

If you do not have any documents, please contact the Embassy of Ukraine in Belgium to obtain a document with a photo proving your citizenship.

There are three administrative districts in Belgium:

• Brussels-Capital Region
• Flemish region
• Walloon region

The registration procedure in the regions is practically the same.

If you need to register:

• in the Belgian Capital Region - please contact Heysel 
• in Flanders will help The agency for integration
• in Wallonia - Social service of Wallonia

You can legally live and work in Belgium if you have the following documents Annexe 15 / Bijlage 15 (Annex 15) and a type A card. Annex 15 is issued while waiting for the A card (it takes from several weeks to 2-3 months).

To register to receive  Annexe 15 / Bijlage 15 can:

at the registration center at Brussels Expo, Hall 8 Heysel.

The registration center is open from 8:30 to 17:30, 5 days a week, it can be reached by metro line 6, stop "Heysel". Minor children must be present at the registration.

In case you arrive at 6 pm or on weekends when Heysel is not open, there is an official representative of the Red Cross Center at the railway station in Brussels who will help you to register.

If you do not intend to receive social or financial assistance, but want to stay in Belgium as a tourist (90 days), you can register in local municipalities.
