Do Ukrainians need a visa to enter Croatia?

No, Ukrainian citizens do not need a visa to enter Croatia. The allowed period of stay in the country is up to 90 days within 180 days from the date of first entry.

Please note that Croatia has joined the Schengen agreement. Therefore, the days spent in this country will now be included in the Schengen 90 days. We recommend that Ukrainians closely monitor and count the number of days spent in the Schengen area using a special calculator on the EU website.

New EU border crossing rules for Ukrainians from October 2025

Starting from October 12, 2025, the EES (Entry/Exit System), an automated entry and exit control system for third-country nationals, including Ukrainians, will be in place at the borders of the EU and Schengen countries.

What is the EES?

EES is an electronic database that will replace traditional passport stamps. Now all travel data will be stored digitally:

date, time and border crossing point;
data of the passport;
face photo;
Fingerprints (for persons over 12 years of age).

The system is applicable for short-term trips of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

What will change for Ukrainians?

When crossing the border for the first time, Ukrainians will need to undergo biometric registration (photo and fingerprints). After that, traveling will become faster: it will be enough to scan your passport, and the system will automatically pull up all the data.

Also:

passports will no longer be stamped;
refusal to provide biometric data = refusal of entry;
data will be stored in the system for 3 years, after which it will be updated.

Where will the EES operate?

The system has been introduced at the entrance to all EU countries except Ireland and Cyprus. It also operates in 4 non-EU Schengen countries:

- Norway,

- Switzerland,

- Iceland,

- Liechtenstein.

In total, these are 29 countries, including Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, France, and other popular destinations for Ukrainians.

Who is not covered by the new rules?

The EES does not apply to:

EU citizens and residents;
holders of long-term visas or residence permits.

What's next?

Approximately six months after the launch of EES, another innovation will be introduced - ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System). This will be an electronic entry permit that will need to be issued online before traveling.

The cost is 7 euros (children and pensioners are exempt).
The permit will be valid for 3 years and does not need to be reissued before each trip.

What documents are needed to travel to Croatia from Ukraine?

To travel to Croatia, Ukrainians will need:

Biometric passport (valid for at least 3 months after leaving Croatia)
Health insurance with coverage of at least 30,000 euros and valid for the entire period of your stay in the Schengen area

Currently, when entering Croatia, insurance policies are often checked along with accommodation reservations and return tickets as proof of the tourist purpose of the trip.

What documents are required for traveling with children to Croatia?

Children under the age of 16 traveling with their parents must have a passport or birth certificate (in the absence of a passport). They have the right to cross the border with one of the parents (without the official permission of the other parent).

If the child is traveling with friends or relatives, he or she must have a notarized travel permit from one of the parents.

Do I need a Green Card to travel to Croatia by car now?

Yes, a Green Card is required for everyone who travels abroad by car, including refugees.

New rules for Ukrainians: only valid biometric passports

From October 29, 2025, the extension of the validity of foreign passports and the inclusion of data on children will no longer be valid.

Now, only a valid biometric passport is required for crossing the border, traveling, and processing documents.

If you have an “extended” document or your child is included in your passport, you must apply for new passports. This can be done in Ukraine (DMS, CNAU, DP “Document”) or abroad (embassies, consulates).

If it is impossible to cross the border, the consulate will issue an identity card for return to Ukraine.

Currently, when entering Croatia, border guards carefully check the stated purpose of the trip against supporting documents — accommodation reservations, itinerary, and length of stay. Therefore, it is advisable to review your documents with a lawyer before traveling.

What do I need to have with me when entering Croatia with animals?

In Croatia, when importing pets, a rabies vaccination stamp is required, made no earlier than 15 days before crossing the border and no later than 6 months before crossing the border. An international veterinary passport of the established form is also required.

How much money do you need to enter Croatia in 2026?

In 2026, when entering Croatia as a tourist, border guards may check that you have sufficient financial means to stay in the country and return home.

Standard requirement: approximately €70 per person per day of stay (cash, funds on a bank card, or proof of access to funds).

Reduced requirement: approximately €30 per day if the tourist has:

- a confirmed reservation or paid accommodation;

- a paid tourist package;

- an official invitation or letter of guarantee from the host.

This amount is not an entry fee, but only the minimum amount of funds that can be checked at the border.
