To date, it has been decided that the protection will be valid until 04.03.2026 and provides accommodation, medical care, access to housing, labor market and education.
Italy will grant Ukrainians who have fled their homes a one-year residence permit. The decree was signed by Prime Minister Mario Draghi on March 29, 2022. The residence permit will be issued by the Italian Police Headquarters.
Another decision of the Italian government will allow Ukrainians to receive 300 euros for three months.
What do I need to do upon arrival?
Within 48 hours of your arrival in Italy, contact the municipality's police headquarters to fill out a Hospitality Declaration.

The Italian government is ready to provide refugees from Ukraine with everything they need, but it should be noted that these functions are distributed among different government agencies. For example, temporary housing is provided by the Prefecture, medical care by the Ministry of Health, and residence permits in Italy by the Migration Service (Questura), which can potentially create certain difficulties for citizens, as all these bodies are located in different places.

You will also need to go in person to the nearest ASL healthcare facility to obtain a Temporary Healthcare Provision Card (codice STP). The STP card gives you access to emergency, necessary and ongoing outpatient and inpatient care for illnesses and injuries, as well as prescriptions for medications at public and accredited private healthcare facilities;

You can contact the Prefectural Office in the city where you are located, explaining your situation and the need for placement in a reception center.
What should I do if my passport expires?
If your passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad ("foreign passport") has expired and you entered Italy after 24.02.2022 with a passport of a citizen of Ukraine (the so-called "internal passport"), you must apply to the nearest Ukrainian diplomatic mission for the issuance of documents identifying your person and confirming your citizenship of Ukraine.
What to do if you have a child without a passport with you?
If your children under the age of 16 have only birth certificates and crossed the border on the basis of this document, you should definitely contact the nearest Ukrainian diplomatic mission to obtain documents identifying their identity and confirming their Ukrainian citizenship.
What are the rules for crossing the border with pets for Ukrainians?

Citizens who arrived in Italy before February 24, 2022 and whose period of legal stay in Italy is about to expire must apply to the nearest branch of the Migration Service (Questura) with a request to extend their stay (declare their presence) or apply for a temporary residence permit.
Refugees from Ukraine have the right to obtain a document that gives them the right to temporarily reside in Italy. This permit also allows you to find employment in Italy and travel to other countries, including returning to Ukraine. In order to obtain this permit (permesso speciale temporaneo), you must personally apply to the Migration Service (Questura).
What do I need to do to regularize my situation on Italian territory after 90 days of stay?
If you decide to stay in Italy for more than 90 days, you should contact the Police Headquarters - Immigration Service of the city where you are staying (Questura) to obtain all the necessary information about the various possibilities of legal stay in Italy. Residents of Ukraine who are forced to flee the war are granted temporary protection, which is valid for one year with the possibility of extending it for the next six months twice (i.e. for a maximum of one more year) and ensures the right to residence, medical care, access to housing, the labor market and education.
