Higher education in Kuwait is regulated by the Ministry of Higher Education (MHE).
There are four public higher education institutions in Kuwait;
- Kuwait University
- PAAET College of Basic Education
- Higher Institute of Theater Arts
- Higher Institute of Musical Art
In Kuwait, education for local residents at all stages of education is free. The educational process takes place according to bachelor's and master's programs. To obtain a bachelor's degree, a student will need to study in the chosen specialty for 4 years, a master's degree – 2 years.

Where should I apply for university studies?
Prospective students should apply directly to the institution of their choice. Some of the higher education institutions have an online application system or allow applications to be submitted through the university offices in paper form.
Each higher education institution sets its own admission requirements. Contact the institution to learn about the procedure.
Accepted applicants will be notified by the institution or can check the institution's website after logging into the online enrollment system (if applicable).

What documents are required for admission to Kuwaiti universities?
The following documents are required:
- Application for admission to the university;
- Certificate of education: high school diploma, etc. A secondary education certificate obtained outside of Kuwait must be certified and stamped by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin, as well as by the Kuwaiti Embassy in that country.
- Certificates/diplomas;
- Copy of valid passport and photo;
- A copy of the national identity card;
- A copy of the birth certificate;
- 3 photos;
- Letter of motivation;
- Certificates of knowledge of the English language: TOEFL or IELTS results;
- Letter of Recommendation: At least two letters of recommendation are required;
- Letter about professional experience (if any);
- Insurance policy.
Additional documentation may be required depending on the university and program. Always refer to the university website for specific entry requirements.

Some higher education institutions in Kuwait administer an aptitude test for admission or an English and math proficiency test. Contact the institution you are applying to.

After enrolling in a Kuwaiti higher education institution, international students who wish to study in Kuwait must apply for a student visa at the nearest Kuwaiti embassy.
Although the university can provide you with information on how to apply for a student visa, the final approval of your visa still depends on the documents you submit to the embassy.

What documents are required for a student visa?
To apply for a student visa, you must have the following documents:
- Completed visa application form and visa fee payment receipt;
- Confirmation of enrollment at the university (letter from the university);
- Tuition payment receipt;
- Evidence of financial resources showing that you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses in Kuwait;
- Letter of motivation;
- A cover letter from your university explaining the course;
- Valid passport;
- One passport size photograph;
- HIV test (AIDS test).
- Health certificate: obtained from a local doctor, certifying that the patient is healthy and free of infectious diseases. The results of laboratory tests for the following: hepatitis B and C, malaria, filariasis, syphilis and a chest X-ray for tuberculosis.
- Certificate of no criminal record.

Can I combine studying and working in Kuwait?
Most university and college programs here allow students to work part-time, preferably 20 hours per week.

Most study programs are accompanied by fully funded scholarships as well as travel grants and financial aid, so international students, researchers and professors can always find a suitable program in Kuwait and apply.
