Ukraine offers an impressive variety of itineraries, from the ancient fortresses of Podillia to the thermal springs of Zakarpattia and the Hutsul highlands. Planning a trip to cover as many interesting places as possible in a limited amount of time is no easy task, especially without experience or knowledge of the area. That is why organized tours are a convenient solution for those who want to get the most out of their trip without the hassle.
We’ll tell you more about the available destinations, what’s included in the itineraries, and how many days to set aside for the trip in the article below.
Castles, Fortresses, and Historic Cities of Western Ukraine
Architecture and history enthusiasts should take note of itineraries that cover the main fortifications and cultural landmarks of the country’s west. The tour “Bakota, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Chernivtsi” lasts three days and begins in Lviv or Ivano-Frankivsk. Participants will visit Chernivtsi National University—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—take a stroll through the historic city center, and then head to Kamianets-Podilskyi. There, they will enjoy a tour of the old town and the famous fortress, as well as a trip to Bakota with its unique rock monastery overlooking the Dniester River. The itinerary concludes with a cruise through the Dniester Canyon, a visit to the Khotyn Fortress, and a descent into the Verteba Cave near Bilche-Zolote.
No less packed is the three-day “Transcarpathian Voyage”, which starts from Lutsk or Rivne. The first day of the itinerary is dedicated to three castles at once—the Schönborn Palace with its English park, the medieval St. Miklos in Chynadiyevo, and the majestic Palanok Castle in Mukachevo. Next, the tour moves to the heart of the Carpathians: participants will visit a brown bear rehabilitation center, take a cable car up Mount Makovytsia, and visit Lake Synevyr and the Shipit Waterfall. The final day features relaxation in the thermal pools of the Kosyno complex, a lunch featuring Hungarian cuisine, and a tasting of Transcarpathian wines.

Carpathian culture, gastronomy, and active recreation
For those who want to immerse themselves more deeply in Hutsul culture and sample Carpathian cuisine, itineraries lasting three to five days are ideal. The “3-Day Carpathian Foothills + Verkhovyna” tour begins in Lutsk, with the option to join along the way in Lviv or Ivano-Frankivsk. Over three days, participants will have time to visit Yaremche—with its souvenir market and the Probiy Waterfall—go jeeping to the Makovytsia mountain pasture, and sample Hutsul cheeses and fruit brandies.
In Verkhovyna—the heart of Hutsul culture—travelers can look forward to rafting on the Black Cheremosh River, a visit to a trembita player, a tour of the “Shtopor” museum with wine tasting, and an authentic Hutsul folklore evening. The trip concludes in Bukovel: a cable car ride, the “Hutsul Land” theme park, and a spa complex.
The five-day tour “Carpathian Highlights in 5 Days” from Lviv is designed for those seeking new, lesser-known locations in Transcarpathia. The itinerary includes St. Miklos Castle, thermal pools in Kosyno and Velyatino, a tasting of homemade jam and sausages in Botar, a visit to the “Highland” ranch with a tour of the deer farm and a snail tasting. A separate day is set aside for a five-hour visit to the “Karpatiya” water park in Mukachevo, tasting Transcarpathian cheeses in Perechyn, and bathing in vats in Lumshory. The itinerary also includes a walk through Shenborn Park, a tour of Nevytsky Castle, and a visit to the ancient wooden church in Kostryna.

Week-long trips and a full immersion in Transcarpathia
For those ready to set aside five or seven days for a vacation, there are itineraries covering the maximum number of locations. The “Around the Carpathians in 7 Days” vacation tour is the most extensive program, starting from Lviv. Over the course of a week, travelers will take a cable car up Mount Hymba, see the Shipit Waterfall, and visit Synevyr National Park with its brown bear rehabilitation center and the lake itself. The route then continues through the Schönborn Palace, Palanok Castle in Mukachevo, the thermal pools of Berehove, and a tour of Uzhhorod. On the fifth day, participants will visit a buffalo farm in Vynogradiv, a deer farm in Iza, the salt lakes of Solotvyno, and the geographical center of Europe in Dilove. The sixth day is entirely dedicated to Verkhovyna—a hike up to the “Dil” mountain pasture, Roman Kumlyk’s museum, a photo session in Hutsul attire, tasting Carpathian teas, and bathing in wooden vats. The final day features free time in Bukovel with the cable car, “Hutsul Land,” and the “Mavka” water park, followed by a stop in Yaremche near the Probiy Waterfall.
The five-day tour “Travel to Sunny Transcarpathia” starts from Lutsk or Lviv and combines nature, relaxation, and entertainment. The itinerary includes the Synevyr Pass, the Brown Bear Center, the “Valley of Wolves” eco-park, and Lake Synevyr. A separate day is dedicated to visiting the “Highland” ranch and relaxing at the “Rikka Khust” spa complex. Participants will also take a jeep tour to Mount Hymba, see the Shipit Waterfall, and, to wrap things up, ride the legendary Carpathian tram in Vyhoda. Accommodation is at a mountain hotel with breakfast, dinner, hot tubs, and a sauna included.
