What cars are subject to the “luxury tax” in 2026?

In 2026, a transport tax of UAH 25,000 per year will be paid by owners of passenger cars that meet two criteria: age - up to five years, and average market value - above the established threshold. This threshold is tied to the minimum wage and in 2026 will amount to UAH 3,242,625 (375 minimum wages), which is higher than last year.

The key conditions under which a car falls under taxation are:

1. Car age: up to 5 years inclusive.

2. Cost: the average market price exceeds UAH 3,242,625.

3. Type of payment: fixed transport tax - UAH 25,000 per year.

Important note: the list of models is formed and updated by the Ministry of Economy, and it may change during the year. Individual models may be added to the list if their average market value exceeds the threshold.

By the way, starting in 2026Ukraine will switch to European standards for drivers.

What models were added to the list this year?

In 2026, the Ministry of Economy expanded the list of cars subject to the “luxury tax”. In total, the list includes models of more than 20 premium brands and large SUVs, including Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Mercedes, Land Rover, Lexus, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, and Rolls-Royce.

This year's list includes models that were not on the list last year:

- Tesla: Model S Plaid (up to 1 year old), Model X LR and Roadster (up to 5 years old).

- Toyota: Sequoia and Tundra (2-3 years old).

- Volvo: XC90 (up to 1 year).

Owners of these models within the specified age limits should check whether their car falls under the average market value criterion. If the price exceeds the established threshold, they are obliged to pay a transport tax of UAH 25,000 per year.

Appointments at MIA service centers will now work differently. Find out what has changed by following the link.

Who has to pay the “luxury tax” and when?

The obligation to pay the vehicle tax arises for owners of cars that meet the established criteria for age and average market value. The amount of tax is fixed at UAH 25,000 per year for each car included in the list.

The procedure and terms of payment depend on the status of the owner:

1. Individuals pay the tax within 60 days after receiving a tax notice.

2. Legal entities pay the tax in advance every quarter by the 30th day of the month following the reporting quarter, with reflection in the annual declaration.

It is worth noting that the list of cars may be updated throughout the year. Therefore, owners of expensive models should periodically check whether their model has appeared on the current list of the Ministry of Economy.
