Today, the number of Ukrainians in Germany has exceeded 1 million people. Berlin hosted at least 100,000 people fleeing the war in Ukraine. Many of them have found shelter, but still approximately 3,000 refugees are still in search of a roof over their heads.

Where are Ukrainians who arrived in Germany housed?

With the beginning of the russian invasion, Germany opened two terminals at the former Tegel Airport in Berlin. It was there that the main registration and redirection center for Ukrainian refugees seeking refuge was set up.

How is the Berlin airport prepared to host Ukrainians in winter?

Berlin authorities have already started preparing a temporary shelter for the winter. At the Tegel airport, a third terminal was opened, in which Ukrainians will be met, and 900 beds were installed. Officials also plan to equip two large tents on the summer field with heaters as soon as possible.

In total, Tegel Airport plans to accommodate approximately 3,600 Ukrainians arriving in Berlin.

"Since the president of russia has targeted Ukraine's heat and water supply, and the temperature will soon drop below zero, the number of Ukrainian refugees may increase at any moment", - said Katya Kipping, a senator from Berlin's land administration in social affairs.

The official also said that most of the usual shelters for refugees in Berlin and other cities of the country are already full. Therefore, finding housing for people seeking protection in Germany should become a priority for the authorities.

It is noted that the tents at the airport should be fully equipped by the end of the month.

How many refugees live at the Berlin airport today?

As of today, approximately 1,500 Ukrainian refugees, mostly mothers and children, have been accommodated at Berlin's Tegel Airport. In the summer, at least 400 displaced people lived there in modular houses.

It is noted that ordinary housing, which was designed for 28,000 newly arrived Ukrainians, is already full.

We will remind you! Earlier, the Bulgarian authorities reconsidered the issue of refugee accommodation and decided to keep the Ukrainians in hotels for another 4 months. However, upon arrival, new refugees will first be settled in a single temporary center, and then, within 30 days, they will be transferred to state bases. More details at the link.
