Ukrainians who have found refuge in Poland since the beginning of the full-scale war will be forced to pay for accommodation in refugee accommodation facilities.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said the Polish government is currently working to improve aid provision amid a possible second wave of refugees.

"We are preparing for a possible next wave of refugees. Because already today in Ukraine several million people do not have access to electricity, water, elementary living conditions, sanitation. So we are preparing for such a wave of refugees, and we want the system to be prepared accordingly, so that Polish taxpayers have to pay as little as possible for this possible next wave of refugees", - Morawiecki emphasized.

When and how much will refugees from Ukraine pay for accommodation in Poland?

It is assumed that from March 1, 2023, payment will be introduced for those refugees who stay in collective accommodation facilities for more than 120 days.

Initially, refugees from Ukraine will cover 50 percent of the cost of living, after a few months - 75 percent. So:

More than 120 days - 50% of the cost of accommodation and food, but not more than PLN 40 ($8.87) per day. Those who stay for more than 180 days will pay 75%, that is, up to PLN 60 per day.

Which of the Ukrainians can not pay for accommodation in refugee accommodation facilities?

The obligation to pay will not apply to:

• people with disabilities

• children

• pregnant women

• persons of retirement age

• persons who take care of at least three children

Pay attention! According to the amendments to the law, the application for a PESEL number by Ukrainian citizens who came to Poland after the Russian attack on February 24 will become mandatory. Refugees who receive a PESEL number and leave Poland will have this number frozen.

How many Ukrainians are in Poland?

Since the beginning of the full-scale war of the russian federation against Ukraine, about a thousand people have come to Poland, declaring that they are refugees. However, the country's government expects a greater flow of refugees due, in particular, to energy problems in Ukraine.

According to the Border Service, since the beginning of the russian aggression, almost 8 million people have entered Poland from Ukraine, and 6 million 200 thousand have left.
