From now on, Ukraine will carry out mandatory evacuation of children from active combat zones. Find out more about the approved mechanism and whether a refusal is possible
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved an initiative to forcibly evacuate children from the war zone. This was reported by the press center of the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories.
It is noted that the basis for the mandatory evacuation is now the decision of the regional military administrations, agreed with the military command and the Coordination Headquarters for the mandatory evacuation of the population.
Compulsory evacuation of children will be carried out under the accompaniment of one of their parents, a person in loco parentis, or another legal representative.
Please note! Refusal of parents or guardians to evacuate a child is NOT allowed.
According to Iryna Vereshchuk, Minister of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, this decision should "encourage parents to take a more balanced approach to the issue of evacuating their children".
"Children in the war zone cannot take care of themselves. Therefore, adults are responsible for them. Refusal of parents or guardians to evacuate a child is not allowed. It is about their life", - the agency emphasizes.
Currently, only Bakhmut meets the relevant criteria for the forced evacuation of children from combat zones.
We remind you! Evacuation trains continue to run daily from the dangerous regions of Ukraine to reach the central and western regions. Read more about the train schedule and financial assistance to war victims here.
