Starting in mid-March 2023, China will re-issue all types of visas to foreign tourists for the first time in three years since the start of the pandemic. Find out more about who can enter China and what the conditions are
For the first time in three years, China will issue various types of tourist visas to foreigners. The government made this decision after declaring victory over COVID-19 last month.
After the coronavirus pandemic started in 2019, the Chinese government decided to close its borders to contain the spread of the disease. Since March 2020, tourists have not been able to visit the country, which has contributed to the deterioration of the economic situation. Now, the Chinese authorities are counting on the resumption of the flow of people wishing to see the Celestial Empire and return the economic growth rate to pre-pandemic levels.
Who can travel to China?
Tourists with valid visas issued before March 28, 2020, can safely travel to China.
We would like to add that cruise ships passing through the port of Shanghai do not need visas. Foreigners from Hong Kong and Macau will resume visa-free entry to the southern manufacturing center of Guangdong.
Certificate of vaccination and testing for COVID-19
There is no information on the need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result. At the same time, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Wenbin reported that the country is "optimizing measures for remote testing of people arriving from the respective countries".
Supporting the economy
China expects about 2 billion people to travel through the country this year, twice as many as in 2022. Authorities and investors hope to bring $17 trillion back into the economy.
